Event Ops Server – Event Operations
Role Summary
Reporting to the Event Operations Supervisor and the Event Operations Leadership Team, this position is responsible for preparing coffee breaks, service carts, and stations with appropriate food and beverage items as outlined in the Banquet Event Order (BEO). This role supports the setup and execution of meal functions, receptions, buffets, action stations, taste panels, VIP events, and other special functions while delivering exceptional, personalized service consistent with JW Marriott and LQA luxury hospitality standards. The Event Operations Server anticipates guest needs, creates memorable experiences, and demonstrates genuine care and professionalism in every interaction.
Accountabilities
- Ensure uniform and personal appearance are clean, pressed, professional, and in accordance with JW Marriott grooming standards
- Follow appropriate personal hygiene procedures to ensure food served to guests is safe for consumption, including sanitizing hands prior to handling food
- Inspect the cleanliness and presentation of all china, glassware, silverware, linens, and event equipment prior to use
- Prepare tables, action stations, buffets, service carts, dessert stations, and beverage stations with specified tools, wares, and equipment according to Marriott standards and event specifications
- Welcome and acknowledge each guest with a warm smile, eye contact, and a genuine, personalized greeting, using the guest's name whenever possible
- Demonstrate a luxury hospitality mindset by anticipating guest needs, recognizing guest preferences, and taking proactive action to enhance the guest experience
- Engage with guests in a professional, friendly, and confident manner, creating memorable experiences through personalized and attentive service
- Accurately answer guest questions and communicate with the culinary team regarding dietary requirements, allergies, food substitutions, wait times, and special requests
- Serve food and beverages accurately and efficiently according to the Banquet Event Order and established service standards
- Monitor guest satisfaction throughout events and take ownership of concerns, responding with urgency, empathy, and professionalism to ensure resolution
- Actively listen and respond positively to guest requests while identifying opportunities to exceed expectations and create memorable moments
- Provide assistance to individuals with disabilities in accordance with Marriott standards and accessibility guidelines
- Bus tables by removing and separating china, glassware, flatware, and service items in a timely and organized manner
- Replenish buffet items, beverage stations, and service areas to ensure freshness, abundance, cleanliness, and exceptional presentation throughout the event
- Assist fellow team members to ensure seamless event execution, proper coverage, and exceptional guest service at all times
- Follow responsible alcohol service guidelines and applicable legislation
- Protect the confidentiality of guest, client, associate, and company information at all times
- Use proper equipment, wear appropriate personal protective equipment, and employ safe lifting techniques to prevent injury
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas throughout the shift by following clean-as-you-go practices
- Complete closing duties including storing reusable goods, breaking down event equipment, cleaning service areas, restocking supplies, securing equipment, and completing required checklists
- Report workplace accidents, incidents, hazards, or injuries immediately to the Supervisor
- Adhere to all environmental, sustainability, health, and safety policies and programs as required
- Follow departmental policies, procedures, service standards, and LQA luxury service expectations
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements
- At least one year of related food and beverage, banquet, catering, or hospitality service experience
- Knowledge of basic sanitation controls and the safe use of cleaning products and supplies
- Knowledge of Marriott sanitation standards, food safety practices, and banquet service procedures
- Previous luxury hotel, resort, conference centre, or event venue experience considered an asset
- Smart Serve Certification or ability to obtain certification, preferred
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a passion for delivering exceptional guest experiences
- Ability to anticipate guest needs and deliver personalized service in a fast-paced environment
- Commitment to professionalism, attention to detail, and luxury hospitality standards
Working Conditions
- Must be able to work flexible hours including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Required to move, lift, carry, pull, and place objects weighing less than or equal to 20 pounds without assistance
- Stand, sit, or walk for an extended period of time or for an entire shift
- Move up and down stairs and/or service ramps
- Reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, and pulling
- Move over sloping, uneven, or slippery surfaces
