Harm Reduction Outreach Worker
($22.50 per hour- based on 25 hours weekly)

Category: Part-time
Working conditions:
- 25 hours per week working in a variety of settings;
- Must be flexible to work evenings and occasional weekends;
- Must possess a valid ‘G’ driver’s license;
- Must have the ability to lift and carry boxes of various sizes, cases of water, and food, up to 25 pounds without physical restriction.
Provide harm reduction supplies, information and offer referrals to service users at various locations:
Outreach
- Provide harm reduction supplies, information and offer referrals to service users at various locations:
- Drop-ins at needle exchange program (NEP) sites to provide in-person support;
- Drop-ins at non-NEP partner agency locations;
- Deliveries and pick-ups of supplies and resources to resident locations and/or public spaces;
- Street-level outreach.
- Complete community clean-ups and assist agencies with clean-ups as requested.
- Provide program counter service at approved sites in PARN's service area.
Community Development
- Maintain relationships with service providers and create new relationships through outreach, committees and community events;
- Sit on various committee tables and working groups to share information, make connections and create partnerships;
- Promote harm reduction programming to community agencies to increase access for people who use drugs;
- Communicate with community partners on a regular basis to stay informed about changes occurring in the City;
- Connect with new community agencies and previous community partners in attempt to establish new NEP sites in the City;
- Create informational pamphlets about NEP’s for introductory conversations and general information sharing;
- Attend events, workshops and webinars based in Peterborough to make connections and stay informed about what occurs in community;
- Provide information regarding harm reduction to community agencies as requested (i.e. Safe needle handling, supply identification, naloxone training etc.)
- Work closely with harm reduction sites to provide Naloxone, Bio-Bins and other harm reduction program support as required.
Supply and Inventory Management
- Monitor usage and distribution trends to assist with ordering of single-use supplies;
- Communicate with NEP sites on a regular basis to ensure they have supplies;
- Deliver supplies to NEP sites on daily and weekly basis, depending on site needs;
- Complete weekly inventory management at select NEP sites;
- Assist with the assembly of harm reduction kits as inventory requires;
Data Collection
- Responsible for collecting data through service delivery and reporting via NEO for outreach interactions;
- Provide NEP sites with paper-NEO forms for data collection and enter completed data into NEO system on a monthly basis;
- Use of OCHART to track community development interactions, such as presentations and committee meetings;
- Record number of Naloxone kits distributed through NEO portal.
Presentations and Training
- Provide Naloxone training to service users
- Offer and deliver presentations and trainings to service providers as requested;
- Overdose Prevention and Naloxone Training
- HIV 101
- Harm Reduction 101
- Safe Needle Handling
- Other trainings related to Harm Reduction Practices as requested
QUALIFICATIONS
- Demonstrated experience working in health promotion or community development.
- A post-secondary degree or diploma in health promotion, community development, adult education, or health and community services is an asset.
- Strong skills in program management, delivery, and evaluation as well as community mobilization and/or development.
- Basic understanding of HIV/AIDS, safer sex, and harm reduction principles and practices
- Strong anti-oppressive practice skills and a demonstrative understanding of the impacts of anti-Black and anti-Indigenous racism.
- Demonstrative work with communities made vulnerable (e.g. marginalized trans and cis women, rural GBMSM, people who use drugs, individuals engaged in sex work, international students and workers)
- Strong ability to openly communicate about sex and drug use in a sex-positive, drug-positive, non-judgmental manner.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills
- Self-directed and able to work one-on-one and with small to medium sized groups of people in various settings.
- Basic understanding of GIPA and MEPA in reference to HIV/AIDS work in Ontario.
- The successful candidate must have a valid ‘G’ class driver’s license and be able and willing to operate an agency-run, branded van.
