Job Title: Lab Pack Customer Facing Representative (DZ Driver)

Position Overview
GFL Environmental is looking for a detail-oriented, safety-driven Lab Pack Representative to serve as the front-line technical representative for our environmental services division. In this role, you will identify, pack, label, and safely transport hazardous and non-hazardous chemical waste from customer sites. Combining technical chemical expertise with client-facing service, you will ensure full regulatory compliance while delivering an outstanding customer experience.
Key Responsibilities
Customer Representation & Site Operations: Serve as the primary on-site technical contact, providing professional, courteous service while handling chemical waste streams.
Lab Packing & Identification: Classify, segregate, package, and label various laboratory chemicals and hazardous wastes according to municipal, provincial, and federal regulations.
Chemical Compatibility & Safety: Evaluate chemical compatibility on-site to safely consolidate waste, prevent hazardous reactions, and ensure proper transport.
Transportation & Logistics: Drive company vehicles (including DZ-class trucks) to pick up waste from client locations and transport it back to GFL processing facilities.
Documentation & Compliance: Complete accurate waste manifests, shipping documents, lab pack inventories, and chain-of-custody paperwork.
Equipment Maintenance & Safety Compliance: Strictly adhere to GFL safety protocols, conduct pre-/post-trip vehicle inspections, and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including respiratory protection when necessary.
Qualifications, Experience & Requirements
Education & Experience: Post-secondary education in Chemistry or Chemical Technology. Relevant work experience and/or an internship in a related environmental field will be considered.
Licensing: A valid DZ Driver’s License is preferred; candidates willing and eligible to obtain a DZ license will also be considered.
Chemical Expertise: Solid understanding of potential chemical reactions (compatibility) and standard methods for performing safe chemical disposal reactions.
Technical & Computer Skills: Competent computer skills, including proficiency in Google Sheets and Google Docs.
Safety & Detail Orientation: Extremely safety-conscious, highly detail-oriented, and capable of safely wearing a respirator as required by job tasks.
Professional & Interpersonal Skills: Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive customer relationships.
Work Style: Self-motivated, able to multitask, work with minimum supervision, and collaborate effectively within a team environment.
Flexibility: Willingness to work overtime, alternate shifts, and occasional weekends as operational needs dictate.
