IT SYSTEM SUPPORT SPECIALIST

The IT System Support Specialist serves as the first point of contact for end users seeking technical assistance for IT related issues or requests. This includes troubleshooting, diagnosing and resolving technical hardware and/or software issues and using the in-house ticketing system in addition to being in charge of maintaining and keeping servers up to date. The successful candidate will also be responsible for the installation, repair, and testing of microcomputers and accessories/peripherals.
This position will require after hours and on call work.
Responsibilities and Duties
Process incoming help desk requests through the ticketing system, including recording the technical issue and resolutions;
Troubleshoot and attempt to solve IT related problems over the phone, via email, remote desktop and on-site;
Provide technical support for all PC hardware, software, and associated peripherals;
Network management and administration including: network planning, monitoring & troubleshooting; regular network maintenance; security; backups; ensuring optimal performance with minimum downtime;
Server maintenance, which includes Windows and firmware updates as well as migration;
Troubleshooting server issues with minimal downtime.
Install PCs and associated peripherals including new installations and the redeployment of existing equipment;
Create, modify, and analyse data from the technical database in the problem management system;
Administer the Local Area Network (LAN) and resident Software;
Install network-attached laser printers and coordinate print queue creation with Network group;
Coordinate and work with other department members to schedule upgrades, installation and implementation projects for hardware, software and network-accessible resources;
Monitor IT inventory; hardware/software maintenance and ordering;
Work with vendors;
Other technical duties as business needs require;
Move between our multiple sites throughout the day as needed.
Education and Training
Degree, diploma or certification in a relevant field (Information Systems, Computer Science);
Minimum of 5 yrs experience as an IT Help Desk Technician or equivalent combination of education and experience;
Ability to effectively interface and communicate with technical and non-technical staff at all organizational levels;
Eager to learn, and work with new and existing technologies;
Experience with all current versions of Microsoft Desktop Operating Systems;
Experience with all current versions of Microsoft Server Operating Systems;
Experience with all current versions of Microsoft Office, Adobe, Internet Explorer and Anti-Virus/Malware Applications;
Experience with Microsoft Server administration and active directory;
Experience with Microsoft Exchange server, local and online;
Experience with firewall and VPN technologies;
Experience in using Internet tools such as browsers and FTP clients;
Basic knowledge of Linux;
Solid understanding of computer hardware and peripherals;
Excellent knowledge of internet security and data privacy principles;
Ability to work outside regular working hours as required;
Minor Networking Knowledge (Ethernet, IP Networks, VPNs, routing theory, IP Addressing, LANs, Firewalls);
Office 365 management;
PowerShell to manage AD and O365;

The position is banded at the annual salary rate: C51 - $49,700 to $65,500.
