The Role
MCL is hiring an experienced Construction Labourer to complete concrete, masonry, façade and waterproofing restoration work across varied commercial project scopes. The successful candidate has hands-on restoration experience, can safely operate specialized tools and equipment, follow repair procedures and contribute to safe, efficient and high-quality site execution.
Responsibilities
- Complete selective demolition and removal of deteriorated concrete, masonry, coatings, sealants and other damaged materials.
- Prepare repair areas by saw-cutting, chipping, grinding, cleaning and removing loose or unsound material.
- Clean and prepare reinforcing steel and other substrates for repair in accordance with project requirements.
- Assist with forming, mixing, placing, patching and finishing concrete, repair mortars, grouts and related restoration materials.
- Assist with masonry repairs, joint preparation, sealant installation, coatings and waterproofing work within demonstrated skill level.
- Safely operate chipping hammers, grinders, saws, mixers, vacuums and other restoration tools and equipment.
- Stage and move tools, materials and access equipment for restoration work.
- Work from scaffolding, elevating platforms or swing stages when trained and authorized.
- Follow repair drawings, details, measurements, manufacturer instructions and written work procedures.
- Apply required controls for silica, dust, debris, water and material handling.
- Report concealed deterioration, unexpected site conditions and additional repair requirements to the supervisor.
- Maintain safe, clean and properly contained work areas.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- At least two years of relevant construction experience, including hands-on concrete, masonry, façade, waterproofing or structural-restoration work.
- Practical experience with selective demolition, surface preparation, concrete repair or comparable restoration activities.
- Demonstrated competence with restoration-related hand and power tools, including grinders, saws, chipping equipment and mixers.
- Working knowledge of repair preparation, material handling and the basic sequence of restoration work.
- Ability to follow repair details, measurements, written procedures, mix requirements and manufacturer instructions.
- Working knowledge of job-site safety, fall protection, silica and dust controls, and required personal protective equipment.
- Dependable attendance, effective time management and clear communication.
- Ability to perform the essential duties of physically demanding restoration work and report reliably to changing sites throughout the National Capital Region.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience on commercial, institutional, industrial, multi-unit residential or occupied-building restoration projects.
- Rigging certification or relevant training related to safe hoisting, lifting and material handling.
- Experience with concrete forming and finishing, reinforcing-steel preparation, repair mortars, grouts, coatings, sealants or waterproofing systems.
- Experience working from scaffolding, elevating work platforms or swing stages.
- Current Working at Heights, WHMIS, First Aid, suspended access or other applicable safety training.
- Familiarity with restoration-material mixing, application and curing requirements.
- A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
Work Environment
Work is performed at active construction sites, indoors and outdoors, and may involve dust, noise, uneven surfaces, heights, temperature changes, physical labour, lifting and moving heavy materials, and the use of required personal protective equipment. The role requires travel between sites and may require early starts, overtime or occasional weekend work.
