Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled I&R technician, or Installation and Repair technician, who will be responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing telecommunication services like phone, internet, and television in homes and businesses.
The work involves customer-facing service, troubleshooting equipment, running cables (fiber, coax, CAT6), testing lines, and working both indoors and outdoors, often at heights.
Strong Coax background ie Shaw/Rogers is a strong benefit.
Key responsibilities
- Installation: Setting up equipment and services for customers, including phone, internet, and TV.
- Maintenance: Performing routine maintenance and upgrades on existing lines and equipment.
- Repair: Diagnosing and fixing issues with telecommunication services and hardware.
- Troubleshooting: Identifying and resolving problems with the customer's service and equipment.
- Customer service: Providing excellent customer service during installations and repairs.
- Safety: Following safety procedures, including those for working at heights.
Required skills and qualifications
- Technical knowledge: Understanding of electronics, telecommunication systems, and network diagrams.
- Tools and equipment: Ability to use tools for installing, terminating, and testing cables like fiber and coax.
- Education: A two- to three-year college program in electronics, a four-year apprenticeship, or a combination of high school/college courses and on-the-job training.
- Adaptability: Ability to adapt to new technologies, methods, and procedures.
- Organization: Self-motivation and organizational skills to manage a workload and service area.
