Raven Steel specializes in precision metal fabrication, machining, welding and finishing. Prototype to medium and high production volumes. We have been serving the metal fabrication industry for over 30 years. We are currently seeking an experienced Tool Designer for our Vaughan facility.
The Tool Designer assists in the technical development of Raven Steel products for manufacturing. In this role, you will develop 3D CAD files for product components, assemblies, tools and fixtures based on preliminary conceptual ideas. This highly technical position is best suited to a detail-oriented and analytical thinker with strong mechanical abilities and exceptional problem solving skills who enjoys working in a collaborative hands-on environment.
Job responsibilities include:
- Responsible for producing welding and tooling fixtures using Solidworks
- Create accurate detail drawings and BOM to support production
- Plan, conceptualize, and create mechanical designs for new products and improve current products
- Assist in generating working prototypes
- Support production by providing engineering support/feedback to part production issues or QC inspections
- Perform engineering calculations & simulations to support design work
- Developing and evaluating BOMs and entering them in ERP (Syteline)
- Collaborate with multi-disciplinary engineering teams
- Ensure project timeline is met and project stays within budget
- Adheres to all company policies & procedures, health and safety policies & procedures, regulations & standards and quality standards
- Other duties and responsibilities as required and assigned
- Work with minimal supervision
Skills include:
- Firm grasp of engineering concepts, and experience in: sheet metal, tube bending and machining design and fabrication
- Must have proven experience using Solidworks
- Understanding of tooling and fixture design
- Knowledge of GD&T and application of it to various manufacturing processes and part design, including QC inspections
- Experience working in a metal fabrication environment and understanding of fabrication concepts
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office
- Exceptional technical and problem-solving skills and reasoning ability
- Ability to work under pressure
- Ability to communicate effectively and clearly
- Must be self-motivated and a great team worker
Education:
Experience:
- Mechanical engineering: min. 2-3 years (required)

- 8 am to 5pm; Monday to Thursday; 8am to 12pm on Friday
