Natural MedCo Ltd. has an immediate opening for an experienced Financial Controller to report directly to the CFO. We are looking for an exceptional individual who is detail oriented and thrives in a collaborative environment.

Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Preparation or the direction of preparation of the schedules, statements and other disclosures to the regulators that reflect the Company’s exposure to risk
  • Direct the establishment of internal financial controls and ensure that the financial/audit operation and reporting requirements are in compliance with applicable laws, policies, standards, regulations and generally accepted accounting principles and practices
  • Responsible for overseeing accounting procedures, internal controls (implementing, monitoring, enhancing), and ERP (Xero) management
  • Conduct regularly scheduled comparative reporting and analysis of monthly, quarterly and annual financial results which includes production revenues, operating expenditures and the measurement of capital spending together with additional ad hoc reporting and analysis as required
  • Assist in monitoring the budgeting process and communication results with key business stakeholders
  • Assist in due diligence for acquisitions and integration of new operations, procedures and financial reporting
  • Establish and maintain a budgeting/forecasting process, monthly compare budget to actuals with explanations for variances
  • Approve payroll bi-weekly and perform initial review of pay period variance analysis to ensure accuracy of payroll
  • Assist CFO in the development and execution of a business continuity and disaster recovery plan (including, but not limited to, the Corporation’s records, servers, IT backup, telecommunications, relocation of offices, staffing)
  • Responsible for identifying areas for knowledge improvement within the Corporation’s finance department and implementing an adequate training program to increase the knowledge base.
  • Review and assess various aspects of the operations business (such as purchasing, inventory management, long term substantial contacts, etc.) and advise the CFO team on identified opportunities for improved operations efficiency.

CASH MANAGEMENT

  • Monitor daily cash balances and provide CFO with funding needs through rolling forecast model
  • Approve and manage cash disbursements on a daily basis. Communicate and facilitate the approval of all invoices and execution of payments
  • Review monthly bank reconciliations
  • Support the CFO in communicating with bank personnel - provide CFO with monthly analysis and debt covenant calculations when required

FINANCIAL REPORTING

  • Review on a monthly basis the general ledgers for all entities in the Group
  • Prepare or direct the preparation of the consolidated monthly and quarterly financial statements in accordance with IFRS for Eve and its subsidiaries, including review of income statement accounts
  • Maintain and reconcile all balance sheet accounts on a quarterly basis
  • On a monthly basis prepare the company consolidation
  • Assist with preparation of monthly reporting to management and the board
  • Liaise with external and regulatory auditors
  • On an annual basis prepare company consolidated financial statements to meet parent company reporting deadlines
  • Main point of contact for the external auditors - help facilitate the completion of quarterly reviews and annual audit of Company
  • Prepare the biological asset fair value model and ensure properly recorded in the GL
  • Prepare inventory costing and valuations each quarter and ensure true up entries are booked into the GL
  • Review and submit all tax related filings (HST / EHT etc.) that are prepared by accounting staff, working with HR where necessary
  • Maintain a good working relationship with colleagues to ensure knowledge of the various business lines, to ensure that the regulatory reporting is accurate and complete
  • Prepare detailed operating forecasts for each division in conjunction with divisional management (forthcoming)
  • Develop, analyze and interpret managerial reports in order to appraise operating results in terms of profitability, performance against budget, and other matters bearing on the fiscal soundness and operating effectiveness
  • Prepare tax (DTL DTA) calculations on a monthly basis and further work with advisors in completion of annual corporate tax returns.
  • Completion of special projects as required.

A/R, A/P, Purchasing

  • Responsible for the accuracy of A/R and A/P
  • Monitor and support the A/R customer credit process, identify improvements
  • Coach staff through A/R best practices to ensure collections are being made on time and credit is not over extended
  • Ensure all invoices are approved and paid on time
  • Establish and maintain a purchasing order system that addresses the needs of the Company

The successful applicant will have the following skills and qualifications:

  • A post-secondary degree in a related field (business administration or commerce) and a professional accounting designation (CPA, CA, CMA or CGA) is required
  • 5 - 10 years of experience in progressively responsible senior accounting and finance roles
  • Must also demonstrate the following skills through past relevant leadership and management experience: strategic financial stewardship of company resources; exceptional financial planning, analysis and reporting; organization, time management and problem solving; the ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; short and long term business planning; operational performance measurements and improvement; strategic business sense
  • Strong understanding of corporate taxation, including income taxes and sales taxes is an asset
  • Background in agricultural business or agricultural community is desired
  • An entrepreneurial spirit, hands-on, detail oriented and keen adaptability to a dynamic, changing environment complemented with personal drive, resourcefulness, maturity, honesty and integrity and sound business judgment
