Your mission as an Ophthalmic Technician

A Vision Group Canada Ophthalmic Technician (OT), under the supervision of an Ophthalmologist, does testing, takes accurate measurements and reviews optical results in order to allow our licenced eye care professionals to counsel patients on the best refractive surgery options for them. Credibility and customer orientation are essential in this position.

Vision Group Canada employees can be also called upon to work on ad-hoc projects or to assist in tasks and projects related to its affiliated brands. Our employees are expected to be versatile and open to the possibility of learning new skills. Most clinical cross-training or affiliated brand tasks would be considered adjacent to the employee’s current tasks and level of responsibility.


Complete preoperative and postoperative measurements, offering clear explanations to patients throughout the process.
Review optical results to insure of their accuracy.
Provide the licenced eye care professional all the necessary measurements and patient information in order for the patient to receive the proper counseling and recommendations with respect to procedures and technology available at Vision Group Canada.
Provide superior customer service and patient care.
Use appointment and patient file software, patient charts and other available tools to make accurate and clear notes regarding patient eye health.
Perform clinical study recruitment and additional testing as required by Medical Affairs and Research & Development.
Any other tasks as per required by the Center Director or management team.


Superior communication skills, particularly verbal, (bilingualism may be required if applicable in region), with excellent “bedside manner”, professionalism, and active listening
Experience with a number of diagnostic tools and tests, including topography, refraction, slit lamp examination, lensometry, autorefraction, visual acuity, pupillometry, fundus photography, corneal pachymetry, tonometry, corneal topography, corneal tomography, OCT testing of the cornea and retina, biometry, and corneal higher order aberration testing
Patience, approachability and calm demeanor
Ability to manage patient expectations and concerns
Engaging and outgoing personality
Very organized, with attention to detail
Adapt well to often-changing environment, manage personal stress
Team-oriented and collaborative, demonstrate a willingness to learn and also coach others

Ease working with computers and ability to learn new software, entry-level experience with MS Office
Comfortable working in close contact with patients


Graduate from the Opticianry Program (license not required), BSc, COT or COMT as certified by JCAHPO
Experience in an optical environment


A competitive compensation package including fringe benefits and bonus is offered. Candidates will be expected to work on a flexible schedule (days, evenings & week-ends). The selected candidate could also be cross-trained in other clinical positions.
