The Indigenous Programming Coordinator will provide culturally relevant Indigenous perspectives to allow all students to connect with The Gaia Project’s content across varying cultural differences and norms. The Indigenous Programming Coordinator will balance outreach and engagement to ensure that all youth can take action on climate change. Relevant skills include, but are not limited to, Indigenous engagement experience, understanding of reconciliation and decolonization strategies, experience in educational program delivery, and Indigenous environmental knowledge systems. Bi- or multi-lingual skills are an asset to this role to increase outreach to more demographics. Experience with cross-cultural exchanges, research, networking, and educational programming will be integral to day-to-day operations within the role.
At The Gaia Project we are committed to reconciliation, the UN Declaration on the Independence of Indigenous Peoples, and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s 94 calls to action, and thus we are committed to finding an Indigenous-identified applicant who can provide perspectives in that vein and with these goals in mind. Ideally, we are looking for someone who can identify where relevant Indigenous Knowledge and considerations can be implemented, with the goal being that of multicultural understandings of environmental action shared across all peoples of Canada. Connection or relation to the Indian Act and its systems is not required for this position as we recognize the many flaws of the Act and how it has negatively impacted Indigenous communities and peoples in the past and present.
