The Merchandiser & Counsellor (M&C) is responsible for providing world-class store service to the Company’s retail partners. This includes merchandising, consumer counselling, store sets and construction of promotional materials. Consumer counselling responsibilities consist of educating consumers and retail customers on the selection and use of Scotts products as appropriate. This role works closely with the Sales Manager and store personnel to provide input and feedback on sales related issues, opportunities and inventory needs.
Key Work Performed
Drive in-store sales in conjunction with the Sales and Marketing teams’ goals.
Merchandise Scotts products including: seasonal resets, restocking shelves, racks, and displays; cleaning and facing product; repairing or removing damaged items, etc.
Install and maintain point of purchase materials.
Provide recommendations and product knowledge to both consumers and retail customer associates.
Assemble fixtures and displays in-store.
Provide consumer counselling sessions including lawn and garden educational clinics, promotional events and in-aisle consumer education as needed.
Complete all required reports in a timely and accurate manner, i.e. timesheets, surveys etc.
Utilize proper safety techniques and equipment and report incidents to Management in a timely fashion.
Comply with all Company policies, procedures and practices including Health & Safety.
Job Specifications (Minimum Requirements)

Progressing towards or achievement of High School Diploma
Strong initiative, self-directed and able to work independently with little supervision
Good organization and planning skills
Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills due to interaction with retail partners and customers
Ability to fluently read, write and speak English (fluency in French required for some territories)
Basic computer skills
Effort Factors (physical and mental demands)
Must be able to lift, push and pull up to 54 kg (120 lbs.) with assistance on a regular basis
Ability to climb a 2-4 meter (8-12) foot ladder and reach overhead
Evening and weekend work is necessary
Ability to travel locally by car as needed
Works in “big box” retail stores with natural and artificial light exposure; forklifts and/or similar machinery is present
Will be exposed to changes in temperature and humidity including indoor/outdoor working conditions
Current, valid drivers license
Driver’s Abstract/Record which meets Company criteria and must submit to annual Driver’s Abstract/Record check if re-hired season to season
Must have access to a computer with high-speed internet and printing capabilities
