We are currently recruiting an Inclusion Support Worker to support our adult female family member with a developmental disability to find ways to expand their world in this everchanging environment. We are looking for people to dive into the individual’s interests, be creatively active at home and outdoors. This includes using technology to connect with friends and discover new learning opportunities, as well as physically attend outings, activities, social gatherings, and fun community programs. We are seeking people who are active, creative, dynamic, and adaptive. Your role would change as community opportunities open up allowing you to support in exploring work, volunteer, and community opportunities based on personal interests and trying new things.
Duties:
- Build a relationship with and get to know the individual being supported
- MUST BE PHYSICALLY ACTIVE! Morning Position Consists of Gym Activities!
- Explore interests at home, in the community, and virtually, supporting the individual to connect with friends and new learning opportunities (i.e. supporting the individual to cook, exercise, and learn), explore opportunities in the community when permitted
- Facilitate the individual’s participation and support them in developing relationships
- Support the individual in specific daily tasks laid out by both the individual and family
- Support the individual by being present and answering questions respectfully by guiding and directing opportunities
- Abide by Alberta and Canada’s public health recommendations
- Work with the individual to maintain a developed healthy daily routine
- Provide transportation or accompany the individual to community involvement (when permitted) and appointments
- Communicate any issues promptly; work collaboratively with their family, network and existing support
- Safeguard the individual in the home and community when needed
- Respond to unpredictable situations, if necessary, in a calm manner and problem solve with family/team members
- Work as a team member with the supportive roommate
Qualifications:
- Dynamic, active, creative, imaginative, knowledgeable and self-directed
- Strong understanding of and commitment to inclusion
- Experience with people with developmental disabilities is an asset
- Knowledge of virtual platforms and resources as well as physical community resources available to support the persons participation and inclusion within their virtual community and physical community in the future
- Coaching and mentorship skills – knowledge of and ability to demonstrate and support the development of skills as they relate to managing a home, social and work life
- The ability to search out community opportunities and provide support (this may include volunteer and employment opportunities)
- The ability to problem-solve and deal with unpredictable situations
- The ability to demonstrate patience and use thoughtful language
- The ability to lead by example and support our family member to continue learning new skills and develop increasing independence
- A valid Class 5 driver’s license; access to a reliable vehicle, applicable insurance and a clean driver’s abstract
- Recent Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check within the last year
- First Aid and CPR certification is an asset
An industry competitive salary is offered for 6 hour shifts minimum.
Hours: Mon- Fri 8am-2pm or 2pm-8pm
The successful candidates will be directly employed by the individual and family.
