Job Description
**Temporary 6 month assignment**

POSITION SUMMARY
The Supervisor, Maintenance and Facilities, working with the Manager, Maintenance and Facilities, is responsible for ensuring that the maintenance program (daily, preventative, corrective, upgrading) of the Simcoe County Housing Corporation is effectively and efficiently carried out in accordance with the policies of the County, Simcoe County Housing Corporation and applicable legislation and standards. Issues related to the buildings, building systems, landscaping, safety & security, equipment, and summer student personnel are supervised by this position.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (not listed in order of priority)
1. Assist in designing, implementing, and coordinating daily, monthly and annual maintenance programs by giving direction to building maintenance staff in their regular duties and/or assigning maintenance tasks to independent contractors.

2. Prepare tender documents, project drawings, estimates and contractor selection.

3. Capital works projects including site inspections, directing contractors in completion of work, inspecting work in progress for adherence to specification by contractors and final inspection reports for deficiencies in all work.

4. Evaluate building materials, methods of construction and completed work.

5. Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation and procedures related to the safety and security of tenantsand staff and servicing of systems to meet Fire and Building Codes.

6. Inspect and assist with resolving all maintenance concerns of superintendent staff and tenants.

7. Respond to all 24-hour emergency situations in the portfolio and make corrective decisions.

8. Facilitate and participate in tenant meetings, Annual Unit Maintenance Inspections and other related functions as required.

9. Document incident occurrences for insurance orother liability concerns.

10. Assist in determining maintenance priorities, allocating resources (budget, human, physical) and providing technical advice and guidance to staff and contractors in order to implement preventative maintenance program and to expedite repairs when required.

11. In conjunction with the Manager, Maintenance and Facilities, ensure drawings, scope of work, tender documents and estimates are prepared Request for Quotations RFQ) and Request for Tender (RFT) participating on Simcoe County Housing Corporation Opening and Evaluation Committees, ensuring that work is completed to specification and that any deficiencies are corrected and inspection reports are prepared as required for the tender file.

12. Purchase equipment, materials and supplies according to needs, budget limitations and purchasing policy.

13. Assist in the preparation, implementation and monitoring of the Maintenance budget ensuring expenditures are within assigned authority and approved limits.

14. Develop and maintain effective relationships with other departments, managers, fire departments, alarm companies, building inspectors, engineers, architects, consultants and all trades.

15. Provide work direction to Maintenance staff in a manner that directs employees to the realization of departmental goals and objectives. Maintain a work environment that promotes staff participation, teamwork and positive labour relations.

16. Develop and maintain staff scheduling, orientation and training programs and oversee day-to-day activities of summer student staff according to Simcoe County Housing Corporation and County policies and guidelines.

17. Assist in the recruitment, evaluation, discipline and termination of summer student personnel.

18. Prepare and present reports as required.

19. Participate in committees as required.

20. Comply with provincial, Simcoe County Housing Corporation and County occupational health and safety legislation, regulations, policies and procedures.

21. Maintain confidentiality in accordance with the Municipal Freedom of Information andProtection of Privacy Act.

22. Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION, TECHNICAL SKILLS AND CERTIFICATION
  • Strong knowledge of all facets of building construction and maintenance obtained through the completion of a diploma or certificate in Civil Engineering Technician/Technology, Building Science or related field and/or a professional designation with preference to those with certified trade licenses, and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must have advanced knowledge of AutoCAD
  • Strong understanding of policies and related legislation or initiatives and their significance and potential impact.
  • Very good leadership and supervisory skills and ability to interpret and apply employment policies and collective agreements.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills.
  • Strong time management and multi-tasking skills.
  • Knowledge of word-processing and spreadsheet application skills.
  • Valid G Class Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle.
  • Criminal reference check with vulnerable sector clearance.

  • A minimum of one (1) year experience in progressively responsible, related positions.

Salary Grade
$70,797.00 - $84,954.00
