The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides nursing care and clinical support to residents living with acquired brain injuries in a residential care setting. The LPN works collaboratively with an interdisciplinary team to deliver safe, person-centered care that promotes health, independence, and quality of life. Responsibilities include medication administration, clinical monitoring, behavioral support, and coordination with healthcare professionals.
The LPN practices within the scope established by the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives and in accordance with provincial legislation, organizational policies, and best practices in ABI care.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Care
- Provide nursing care to residents with acquired brain injuries and complex health needs.
- Perform ongoing health assessments and monitoring of residents’ physical and cognitive status.
- Administer medications and treatments in accordance with physician orders and nursing standards.
- Monitor for changes in neurological, behavioral, or physical condition and report concerns appropriately.
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation and nursing records.
Care Planning
- Participate in development and implementation of individualized care plans.
- Contribute to interdisciplinary team meetings and resident care conferences.
- Support rehabilitation goals including mobility, independence, and daily living skills.
Resident Support
- Provide guidance and support to care staff regarding clinical needs of residents.
- Support residents experiencing behavioral or cognitive challenges related to ABI.
- Promote dignity, autonomy, and person-centered care.
Health & Safety
- Ensure compliance with infection prevention and control practices.
- Respond to medical emergencies and initiate appropriate nursing interventions.
- Ensure safe medication storage, documentation, and administration.
Collaboration
- Work collaboratively with physicians, therapists, care aides, and community healthcare providers.
- Provide education and mentorship to care staff as needed.
- Communicate with families or substitute decision-makers regarding resident care as appropriate.
Qualifications
- Current registration and good standing with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives.
- Graduate of an accredited Practical Nursing program.
- Current CPR/First Aid certification.
- Experience working with individuals with acquired brain injury, neurological conditions, or complex care needs preferred.
Skills and Competencies

Working Conditions

- Shift work including days, evenings, on-call, weekends, and holidays may be required.

Compensation
- Wage range typically $29 – $42 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.
- Eligible for shift differentials and benefits in accordance with organizational policies.
