Taking direction from the Director, Student Academic Success, the Academic Skills Advisor (ASA) is responsible for supporting students with academic and professional communication skills, including writing, reading, speaking, presentation, and discipline-specific communication practices, which form a core component of students’ broader academic skills development. The ASA supports students to build the skills, strategies, and confidence needed for academic success at university. This includes fostering critical thinking, academic integrity, effective study habits, exam preparation, time management, goal setting, teamwork, management of academic projects and collaborative assignments, and digital literacy.
Objectives:
As a resource for all students in credit-bearing programs at UVic, the ASA supports the foundational academic skills development of students at the undergraduate and graduate levels and applies learner-centred, strengths-based, and research-informed approaches that foster student autonomy and self-regulated learning.
