General Accountability
The Mechanical Engineering Lead is responsible for overseeing the design process, ensuring that all mechanical, electrical, and structural aspects of products meet customer requirements and comply with relevant codes in a timely manner. This role involves making key design decisions and approving the designs produced by others. The Mechanical Engineering Lead must have strong technical expertise in interpreting client specifications and designing electrical switchgear, structures, and skids. They will independently prepare detailed design calculations and drawings, while also supervising a team, ensuring both the team's performance and their professional growth.
Specific Accountabilities (not all-inclusive)
- Prepare detailed design drawings including:
- General arrangement drawings for electrical Distributions.
- Detail parts and assemblies using SolidWorks.
- Traveler packages and shop drawings.
- Detailed bill of materials for projects.
- Fabrication programs for production machines.
- Create & Review drawings using SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
- Responsible for guiding Shop staff with assembly of completed designs.
- Responsible to prepare calculations for bus and enclosure design (bracing and conductor sizing) to ensure compliance with CSA C22.2-31 switchgear requirements.
- Responsible to ensure that all project documents are stored as required within the document management system (PDM).
- Responsible for the coordination of department staff with other team members, vendors and clients.
- Responsible for interface directly with project managers, clients, electrical utilities and regulatory agencies (Electrical Safety Authority, municipalities, etc.) to ensure that designs comply to all customer and regulatory requirements.
- Occasional site visits to acquire information for design and installation of new equipment and retrofits.
- Other duties and tasks as assigned by your manager to ensure REV’s goals and objectives are met.
- Performs all duties so as to meet the responsibilities listed in REV’s Safety and Human Resources Policy Manual.
- Performs duties according to REV’s quality system procedures and work instructions.
Qualifications
- A post-secondary degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent education/training from an accredited Canadian institution is required. Registered Peng.
- In depth knowledge of construction methods and installation details related to electrical equipment and with codes and standards: CSA, IEEE.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant Manufacturing experience.
- In depth knowledge of construction methods and installation details related to the Canadian Electrical Code (CSA C22.1).
- Experience with design of Industrial Control Panels (CSA C22.2 No. 14) would be an asset.
- Experience in the Mechanical and Electrical design of LV/MV switchgear or other relevant electrical equipment or assemblies would be an asset.
- Drafting/Design experience in industrial project environments.
- Good knowledge of SolidWorks.
- Knowledge of AutoCAD is considered an asset.
- Previous steel structural design experience would be an asset.
- Strong computer proficiency and knowledge with Microsoft Office.
- Well organized with a strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work effectively with deadlines and changing priorities.
- Reliable team player with a professional and positive approach.
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
- Ability to communicate and interact with others in a positive and constructive manner while simultaneously building credibility and rapport in relationships.
- Possesses strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently, as well as in a team environment.
- Experience with standardizing parts.
- Knowledge in heat simulations/models and calculations.
