About the Client:
We're seeking a compassionate caregiver for an 85-year-old woman living with her daughter in Newmarket. She has been diagnosed with mild to moderate dementia but remains cognitively functional and able to engage in conversation. She uses a walker or wheelchair for mobility and attends church on Sunday mornings and liturgy on Thursday mornings. The family is committed to keeping her at home as long as possible and maintaining her quality of life through meaningful engagement and companionship.
Responsibilities:
- Provide bathing assistance as needed
- Take her for short walks around the neighborhood
- Engage in conversation and companionship activities
- Offer memory prompts and gentle redirection for cognitive support
- Reheat prepared meals and provide light meal assistance
- Encourage physical and cognitive engagement through games, exercises, and activities
- Occasionally provide transportation for errands or appointments
- Monitor safety and well-being during visits
- Communicate clearly with the family about each visit
What We're Looking For:
- Experience working with seniors who have dementia or memory challenges
- Warm, patient, and positive demeanor that makes the client feel comfortable
- Reliable and consistent attendance
- Strong communication skills with family members
- Ability to take initiative and adapt to changing needs
- Valid driver's license for occasional transportation
- English speaking
- Respectful of the client's independence and dignity
Schedule:
Monday: 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM Thursday: 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM (after morning liturgy) Sunday: 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM (after church)
This is a consistent weekly schedule with potential to add additional days as needs evolve. The family has cameras throughout the home for safety monitoring. Government PSWs provide brief morning visits for personal care, so this role focuses on afternoon companionship, engagement, and quality of life enhancement. The family values reliability above all else and is looking for someone who will become a trusted, consistent presence in their mother's life.
