Tata Steel Minerals Canada is currently seeking Systems Programmers.
Reporting to the Automation Lead, the Systems Programmers role is to design, program and troubleshoot machine control software, instruments and other process automation systems. They are required to program a variety of PLC’s, PI system and Wonderware HMI for the process plant to ensure accurate, reliable and safe operation while meeting all requirements with regards to legislated regulations, company policies and practices.
This is a permanent position to work on 2 week ON/2 week OFF rotations to and from the Menihek region in Labrador near the town of Schefferville QC. Our main pick-up points are in Newfoundland (St John's, Gander, Deer Lake and Wabush), In Quebec (Montreal, Quebec City and Sept-Iles), and in Nova Scotia (Halifax, Charlo).
Work on PLCs of various makes like Siemens, Schneider etc. to program them, build tag lists, make them communicate with the instruments and sensors and the servers, troubleshoot PLC issues; the servers, troubleshoot PLC issues;
Write, modify an integrate test software code in the context of the automation programming;
Prepare reports, manuals and other documentation on the status, operation and maintenance of software;
Design, operate and review and electronic communications, instrumentation and control systems and components;
Identify and address technical problems, processes
Assist in the collection and documentation of user requirements;
Assist in the development of logical and physical specifications;
Investigate and troubleshoot electronic failures;
Guide team of technicians to do loop tests, review the results of such tests and modify programs accordingly;
Assist in the collection and documentation of user requirements and develop maintenance and operating standards for electronic systems and equipment;
Configure and program the PLC’s; Ladderlogic, Functional Block, Grafcet (Sequential Function);
Configure network communication for PLC’s; ConneXium switches, RuggedCom switches;
Participate in the pre-commissioning tests of I/O, commissioning, start-up, ramp-up of equipment’s;
Troubleshoot automation equipment and recommend programming modifications;
Carry out some field engineering projects;
Participate in developing corporate standards on process control and safety guidelines;
Maintain existing programs by making modifications as required;
Ensure Health and Safety as well as environmental regulations are followed rigorously;
Develop such programs based on functional descriptions provided by TSMC;
Program sequencing on the equipment start and stops and building interlocks.
Technician or Engineer Bachelor Degree related to the programming and automation and/or electronics;
4 years’ minimum industrial experience and relevant programming experience in programming and automation projects with programming skills;
Advanced knowledge of PLC programming; Schneider (Quantum, M340), Allen Bradley (1756,1400), Siemens (S7);
Some knowledge of HMI programming; Wonderware ArchestrA with the OPC’s Servers;
Some OPC’s server skills; configuration of Schneider, Allen Bradley, Siemens OPC’s;
Extensive and demonstrated experience in Process Plant Control, Instrumentation, Programming and Automation systems programming skills;
Good communication skills (English and French preferably).
