Since 1985, Universal Rehabilitation Service Agency, URSA, has been a Calgary based non-profit agency that works to meet the needs of individuals with disabilities in community settings. We continue to break down a multitude of barriers for these individuals and help them thrive in the community. URSA has a variety of programs ranging from 10 hours a week in-home support, to 24-hour staffed residences, and a variety of day programs.
As an LPN, a typical week may include:
- Create an environment where parents and guardians are trained and coached to address the medical needs and care of their children.
- Stay current on all relevant industry best practices and health concerns, coordinate and correspond with other health care professionals to ensure that all health needs and additional support are addressed in a timely efficient manner.
- Communicates and consults with families and guardians on a regular basis, providing solutions and support to address their concerns and feedback.
- Supervision of a team of HCA’s in a home for medically complex children with the goal of returning home.
- Performs procedures such as Nasogastric tube feeding, G-tube feeding, Ostomy care, Wound Dressing, and other relevant procedures based on the individual’s care plan.
- May perform and assist in procedures such as Catheterization, Suctioning, Tracheostomy Care, Ventilator support, Respiratory Assessment, Oxygen Therapy, and Parenteral Nutrition within the LPN Scope of Practice.
- May be involved in assessments utilizing approved assessment tools.
- Provides personal care in all or some of the following areas: bathing, toileting, changing, grooming, feeding and dressing.
- Administers medications and provides minor health care to children according to established Agency procedures and access emergency services when necessary.
- May participate in the design, documentation, monitoring, review and evaluation of relevant programs and recreational activities.
- May participate in Interdisciplinary Team conferences and prepares materials for meetings.
- Discusses, examines and evaluates an overall program plan with the Management team to determine feasibility of goals and program outcomes.

You Have:
- A current LPN permit and is in good standing with CLPNA.
- A minimum of 1-year experience as an LPN and 1-2 years’ experience working with persons with disabilities
- Work experience with pediatrics, particularly, children with complex medical needs is an asset.
- Maintains and utilizes a valid BLS for Health Care Provider certification.
- A valid driver’s license with 3 years clear driving record in Canada, and;
- A team player, who can handle stressful situations and be able to work in conjunction with a multi-disciplinary team.
