Position Summary :
The Finance Controller is responsible for overseeing the financial operations of a multi-location Dental Service Organization (DSO) in Ontario. The role ensures the accuracy of financial reporting, compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements, effective internal controls, budgeting, cash flow management, and financial analysis to support strategic decision-making. The Finance Controller partners closely with executive leadership to drive financial performance and support the organization's growth objectives.
Key Responsibilities :
Financial Management & Reporting
- Lead the preparation and review of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Ensure compliance with Canadian Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises (ASPE) or IFRS, as applicable.
- Manage month-end and year-end close processes across multiple dental clinics and corporate entities.
- Analyze financial results and provide variance analysis against budgets and forecasts.
- Develop and maintain financial reporting packages for senior management and ownership.
Budgeting, Forecasting & Analysis
- Coordinate annual budgeting and periodic forecasting processes.
- Monitor clinic-level profitability, productivity, and key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Provide financial insights and recommendations to improve revenue, profitability, and operational efficiency.
- Support strategic initiatives, acquisitions, and expansion projects through financial modeling and analysis.
Cash Flow & Treasury Management
- Oversee cash flow forecasting and working capital management.
- Monitor banking relationships, financing arrangements, and debt covenants.
- Ensure timely management of accounts receivable, accounts payable, and payroll processes.
- Optimize cash utilization and support capital expenditure planning.
Internal Controls & Compliance
- Design, implement, and maintain effective internal controls and financial policies.
- Ensure compliance with federal and provincial tax requirements, including HST, payroll remittances, and corporate tax filings.
- Coordinate external audits and liaise with auditors, financial institutions, and regulatory agencies.
- Ensure compliance with employment standards, privacy requirements, and other applicable regulations.
Multi-Clinic Financial Operations
- Consolidate financial results from multiple dental practices.
- Support clinic managers with financial performance reviews and operational decision-making.
- Monitor revenue cycle management, insurance claims processing, collections, and patient financing programs.
- Establish standardized financial processes across all locations.
Qualifications :
- CPA or CMA designation required.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting and finance experience.
- Experience in healthcare, dental, medical, or multi-site service organizations preferred.
- Strong knowledge of Canadian accounting standards, taxation, and payroll regulations.
- Experience with ERP systems, accounting software, and advanced Excel skills.
