Sterling Industries is a growing mechanical and electrical service company specializing in pumps, rotating equipment, pump drives, controls, and industrial power systems across municipal, industrial, and energy sectors.
We are seeking an experienced Rotating Equipment Specialist / Senior Millwright to join our team. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working on the tools while also providing technical leadership, mentoring apprentices, and assisting with technical quoting and troubleshooting.
This position will play a key role in supporting our service, rebuild, and installation projects, working both in our shop and in the field.
Role Overview
The Rotating Equipment Specialist will provide technical expertise on pumps, gearboxes, blowers, and other rotating equipment while helping support project planning, troubleshooting, and quoting.
This individual will work closely with management and service staff to mentor younger tradespeople and ensure high-quality workmanship across projects.
This role combines hands-on mechanical work, technical problem solving, and leadership within the service team.
Key ResponsibilitiesTechnical Service & Repairs
- Disassemble, inspect, diagnose, and rebuild rotating equipment including pumps, gearboxes, blowers, compressors, and related mechanical systems
- Perform mechanical installations and alignments in accordance with OEM specifications and industry best practices (API / ANSI where applicable)
- Troubleshoot mechanical failures and recommend repair strategies
- Perform equipment commissioning and start-ups
- Assist with vibration analysis, condition monitoring, and mechanical troubleshooting
- Perform precision alignments, bearing installations, and seal replacements
- Safely operate overhead cranes, forklifts, and rigging equipment when handling large components
Shop & Field Work
- Perform rotating equipment rebuilds in the shop environment
- Conduct field service work including inspections, repairs, and troubleshooting
- Maintain high quality workmanship and proper documentation of work performed
Mentoring & Leadership
- Mentor apprentices and junior mechanics in safe and proper mechanical practices
- Support training and skill development within the service team
- Assist management in maintaining high standards for mechanical work and quality control
Technical Support & Quoting
- Assist management and sales staff with technical input for repair scopes, troubleshooting, and quoting
- Help evaluate equipment condition and recommend repair or replacement solutions
- Provide input on parts requirements, repair procedures, and timelines
Safety & Quality
- Follow all company health, safety, and quality procedures
- Maintain a clean and organized work area
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives
Qualifications
- Red Seal Journeyman Millwright preferred
- Experience working with industrial rotating equipment (pumps, gearboxes, blowers, compressors, etc.)
- Strong mechanical troubleshooting ability
- Experience with precision alignment, bearing installation, and mechanical rebuilds
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and equipment manuals
- Comfortable working both independently and within a team
- Strong communication and mentoring skills
- Valid driver’s license with clean driver abstract
Preferred but not required:
- Experience with vibration analysis or condition monitoring
- Experience with API pump installations or pump rebuilds
- Experience working in industrial, municipal, or oilfield environments

Pay: $45.00-$48.00 per hour
