Spare Board Drivers are the service-continuity backbone of the RideTransit’s on-demand EV operation: fully trained, fully qualified, and activated when a rostered driver can't make a shift. It suits experienced drivers who want flexibility, meaningful on-call work, and a first-in-line path to full-time.
HOW THE SPARE BOARD WORKS
- You declare your availability windows in advance — your time outside them is yours
- When activated inside a declared window, you confirm within your tier's response time (Tier 1: 15 minutes · Tier 2: 30–45 minutes) and report to the yard
- Every activation is a confirmed assignment: all time on duty is paid.
- Same training, same standards, same respect as Full-Time Drivers — the only difference is the scheduling model
PAY & TERMS
- Paid training: $25.00/hr — the same training program as Full-Time Drivers.
- Activated shifts: $25.00/hr for all hours worked.
- Spare board active from August 31, 2026
- Path to full-time: Consistent, reliable spare drivers are first considered for every full-time opening as the service scales
WHAT YOU NEED
- Valid Ontario Class F, C, or B licence (Class G is not sufficient)
- Minimum 2 years of commercial or passenger-vehicle driving experience — from any country
- 3-year driver's abstract: Maximum 2 minor convictions, no criminal driving convictions
- Criminal record & vulnerable sector check complete before training · commercial driver's medical (MTO)
- High schedule reliability — the board only works if declared availability is real
- Legal entitlement to work in Canada
Work location is the Ride Transit operations yard in the Town of Caledon, Ontario, and the Caledon service area. Report times start as early as 4:30–5:00 AM and afternoons. You must have reliable personal transportation to reach the yard and any location your supervisor assigns.
Pay: $25.00 per hour
