MINIMAL FORMAL EDUCATION REQUIRED:
- Masters degree in a related study area.
OR
- Bachelors degree or completion of a Community College course in a related discipline with three years = directly-related experience.
EXPERIENCE:
- Advanced microscopy and software training.
- An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Microscopy & Imaging: Skilled in the use of modern microscopes (live cell, bright field, fluorescent, spectral, 3D, automated scanning, laser microdissection, super resolution imaging).
- Imaging analysis: skilled in principles of image analysis and related software.
- Imaging software knowledge and applications including ZEN, Genesis, SKY, Isis, Ikaros, TeloView, Granulometry, Centroview, ChromoView, Arivis and others.
- A satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required.
Train and assist users at 14 diverse imaging and analysis stations at the NCIF:
- This task includes the discussion and understanding of the nature of the imaging experiment and the resulting data needed, the creation of an image acquisition plan based on the planned experiment, the capabilities of the existing imaging systems and the analysis algorithms available.
- An imaging protocol is set up using the selected imaging system software.
- Assist in performing a proof-of-concept test using the users’ specimen.
- Refine and repeat as needed.
- Train the user(s) on the use of the instrument and the analysis and discuss troubleshooting.
Train and assist users in the specific analysis software packages existing at 5 image analysis stations within NCIF:
- The analysis stations have a variety of software tools available.
- Discuss with the user and understand the nature of the analysis and resulting data needed.
- From that discussion create an image analysis plan with the experimental plan, the capabilities of the existing analysis algorithms available.
- Create an analysis protocol using the selected software platform.
- Perform a proof-of-concept test using the users’ samples.
- Refine and repeat as needed.
Assist in workshop development and teaching of image acquisition and analysis:
- The NCIF is involved with two graduate intensive courses each year, a basic course and an intermediate / advanced course.
- These courses need to be planned to cover the stated goals and topics each year.
- Each course has an introduction to new and upcoming technologies in imaging and analysis presented.
- Assist in speakers and sponsorships coordination, in design of posters, printing and distribution.
Assist in planning of imaging seminar:
- The NCIF strives to run a series of small workshops and seminars throughout the year.
- These sessions include:
- hosting of a viewing session of external webinars
- creation on dedicated educational workshops
- training seminars of imaging techniques
- lunch and learn quick talks
- undergraduate exposure to advanced imaging with examples
- high school student introduction to science
- inner city student access
- Assist in the design of posters, printing and distribution.
- May be required to perform related duties not exceeding skills and capabilities as required.
