Bedford Place is currently looking to hire a Maintenance Person to join our Operations & Administrative team. This is primarily a hands-on maintenance and property upkeep position, working closely with the Operations Supervisor to ensure the mall, common areas, and surrounding property are safe, clean, functional, and well maintained.
We are looking for someone with practical maintenance experience who is comfortable taking on a variety of tasks. You do not need to be an expert in every trade — a “jack of all trades” with good common sense, a willingness to learn, and the ability to troubleshoot and get things done would be an excellent fit for this position.
This position may be particularly well suited to someone with a background in building maintenance, construction, property maintenance, renovations, or the trades.
Duties will include, but are not limited to:
- Performing general building and property maintenance and repairs;
- Completing basic painting, carpentry, drywall, plumbing, fixture repairs, and other general repairs;
- Troubleshooting maintenance issues and determining when a repair can be completed in-house or requires a qualified contractor;
- Performing routine inspections of the mall, common areas, exterior areas, and equipment to identify maintenance needs, hazards, or other concerns;
- Maintaining a clean, safe, and presentable environment for tenants, staff, and guests;
- Assisting with seasonal property maintenance and general upkeep as required;
- Responding to maintenance-related issues and emergencies;
- Working closely with the Operations Supervisor and assisting with other operational needs as required;
Occasional Security & Safety Responsibilities
Security is a secondary component of this position. The successful applicant will occasionally assist with general property security and safety monitoring, including:
- Conducting occasional patrols of the mall and property and reporting any unusual or unsafe conditions;
- Checking for hazards, blocked entrances or exits, mechanical issues, property damage, or unauthorized access;
- Responding appropriately to incidents such as fire alarms, medical emergencies, flooding, elevator emergencies, hazardous materials, severe weather, or other unexpected situations;
- Preserving an incident area or evidence when required until the appropriate authorities or management arrive;
- Completing incident reports and other documentation as requested;
- Handling lost and found items;
- Following the property's established safety, emergency, and security procedures.
Qualifications & Skills
The ideal candidate will have:
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in building maintenance, property maintenance, construction, a trade, or a similar hands-on field; equivalent practical experience will also be considered;
- A broad range of practical maintenance and repair skills;
- The ability to troubleshoot problems and use good judgment when determining how to address them;
- Basic knowledge of areas such as painting, carpentry, plumbing, drywall, fixtures, and general repairs;
- Good verbal and written communication skills;
- The ability to work independently while also taking direction from the Operations Supervisor;
- A dependable, responsible, and safety-conscious approach to work;
- The ability to interact professionally with tenants, staff, contractors, and members of the public;
- Must be bondable.
If you have a maintenance, construction, trades, or property background and are looking for a Monday-to-Friday daytime position with 32 hours a week, we would love to hear from you.
