Your Opportunity:
A Registered Nurse is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of comprehensive patient and family centred care on an acute surgical unit in accordance with RAH and AHS policy and procedures. PCU 310 is a 20-bed unit providing care to primary hip, knee and shoulder arthroplasty patients as well as general orthopedic patients. Patients are mostly received from the operating room, but may also come from the emergency department, and directly from medical clinics. We have collaborative care nursing on all shifts with registered nurses, licensed practical nurses and health care aides working collaboratively. All RNs are expected to work to their full scope of practice within hospital policy which includes complex patient assessment and management, leadership, interprofessional collaboration and charge. RNs are expected to direct and monitor the care provided by health care aides and support their LPN peers.

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $35.87/hour - $43.82/hour. Upon being entered into the register of Registered Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Nurse in accordance with AHS/UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable. Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). Additional Required Qualifications:
Heart & Stroke Foundation BCLS - HCP level is required and expected to be maintained through your employment. Previous Orthopedic surgery experience required. Previous Arthroplasty experience required. Demonstrated excellent organizational, interpersonal, communication and priority setting skills required. Demonstrated reliability required. Able to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment. Basic computer skills are required. New graduates welcome to apply. Preferred Qualifications:
Two years Charge nurse experience preferred. CNA Specialization in Orthopedics preferred. Direct IV, PICC, and experience with the care of patients with spinal anesthesia preferred.
