Position Summary
The General Accountant is responsible for supporting the organization’s accounting and finance functions, with a focus on Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, product costing, and general support to the Controller.
Operating within a manufacturing environment with facilities in Canada and China and a strong U.S. customer base, this role requires a hands-on, detail-oriented professional who is comfortable working with cross-border transactions, multiple currencies, and international supply chains. Experience with U.S. customers, import/export processes, and tariff/HS classification is considered a strong asset.
Key Responsibilities
Accounts Payable
- Process vendor invoices accurately and in a timely manner
- Verify invoice approvals, coding, and supporting documentation
- Prepare and process payment runs, including cheques, EFTs, and wire transfers (domestic and international)
- Reconcile vendor statements and resolve discrepancies
- Maintain vendor records and respond to supplier inquiries
- Monitor accounts payable aging and ensure timely payments
Cost Accounting
- Maintain and update product, inventory, and manufacturing cost records
- Prepare cost estimates for new products, customer quotations, and projects
- Analyze historical costs and operational data to develop accurate standard costs
- Assist with cost roll-ups and post year-end costing entries
- Partner with operations to improve cost visibility and margin performance
Accounts Receivable & Cash Application
- Process and apply customer payments accurately and promptly
- Match customer remittances to outstanding invoices
- Prepare and deposit customer payments (cheques, EFTs, wires)
- Monitor aging reports and support collection activities
- Reconcile customer accounts and investigate discrepancies
Controller & Finance Support
- Assist with bi-weekly payroll processing and posting
- Review payroll data for accuracy and completeness
- Prepare and submit pension contributions and WSIB filings on a timely basis
- Support benefits administration
- Assist with month-end close, journal entries, and account reconciliations
- Maintain compliance with accounting policies and internal controls
International & Trade Support (Asset)
- Support documentation and accounting related to cross-border transactions (Canada, U.S., China)
- Assist with tariff/HS code classification and product costing implications
- Work with internal teams to ensure proper treatment of duties, freight, and landed costs
- Provide support for audits or reviews related to import/export activities
Qualifications
- Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field
- 3–5 years of progressive accounting experience
- Hands-on experience in Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Cash Application, Payroll, and Cost Accounting
- Experience in a manufacturing, industrial, or distribution environment strongly preferred
- Experience with product costing, estimating, or quoting is highly desirable
- Exposure to U.S. customers, cross-border transactions, and tariff/HS codes is an asset
Skills & Competencies

- Proficiency with ERP/accounting systems and advanced Microsoft Excel skills
- Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving abilities

- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate cross-functionally across locations
Pay: $60,000.00-$70,000.00 per year
