About the Role
Ferguson Fine Homes is seeking a talented and motivated Junior Design Technologist to join our growing in-house design team. This position is ideal for someone with a strong eye for design, excellent technical drafting abilities, and a passion for custom residential construction.
The successful candidate will support the design process from concept through construction by preparing 2D and 3D drawings, sourcing materials and finishes, and assisting with client presentations. We are looking for a highly organized, self-motivated individual who can manage multiple projects while maintaining exceptional attention to detail.
Key Responsibilities
Design & Technical Drawings
- Prepare detailed 2D drawings, including floor plans, elevations, sections, millwork details, and cabinetry drawings.
- Create and maintain accurate 3D models and renderings for client presentations and project development.
- Revise drawings and renderings based on client feedback and project requirements.
- Assist in developing complete drawing packages for construction and design presentations.
Material & Product Sourcing
- Research and source finishes, fixtures, lighting, flooring, tile, countertops, hardware, plumbing fixtures, and furnishings.
- Obtain pricing, availability, lead times, and samples from suppliers.
- Prepare and maintain finish schedules, specification packages, and selection documents.
- Stay current on design trends, products, and materials within the residential construction industry.
Project Coordination & Organization
- Maintain organized project files, schedules, and documentation.
- Track project selections, approvals, and outstanding items.
- Coordinate with suppliers, trades, consultants, and internal team members.
- Assist with site visits, measurements, and project documentation as required.
- Support designers and project managers throughout all phases of a project.
Client Presentation Support
- Prepare mood boards, material presentations, and client-facing design packages.
- Assist with design concepts and selection presentations.
- Ensure presentation materials are accurate, organized, and visually compelling.
Qualifications
- Diploma or Degree in Interior Design, Architectural Technology, Interior Design Technology, or a related field.
- 1–3 years of experience in residential design, architectural drafting, or a related field is preferred.
- Portfolio demonstrating technical drawings, 3D models, renderings, and design work.
Required Software Skills
- Proficiency in AutoCAD.
- Working knowledge of Revit.
- Proficiency in Enscape for rendering and visualization.
- Strong skills in Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Workplace.
