About the Role
Regulated cannabis is a relatively new industry in Canada, and success in this space requires an entrepreneurial spirit, the ability to self-lead, and a genuine willingness to support a small team. At Small Town Pot Shop, our work goes beyond sales, it’s about building trust with customers, sharing accurate compliant knowledge, and contributing to a welcoming community-focused environment in Parksville Downtown.
We’re looking for a friendly, dependable, driven, and curious Permanent Part-Time Sales Associate who thrives in a retail setting. You’ll support customers in making informed choices while growing your own expertise alongside our close-knit team. Training and resources are provided — a strong willingness to learn is more important than prior cannabis knowledge.
Responsibilities
Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Customer Experience
- Welcome customers and create a comfortable, judgment-free environment
- Listen carefully to customer needs and recommend suitable products, including for first-time consumers
- Educate customers on cannabinoids, terpenes, potency, dosing, safe consumption methods, and various product formats
- Handle questions, concerns, and returns professionally while following store policy
Product & Compliance Knowledge
- Build and maintain strong knowledge of strains, brands, formats, accessories, the cannabis plant, its history, and related topics
- Stay current with provincial and federal cannabis regulations and apply them consistently in all interactions
Store Operations
- Process transactions accurately using the Cova POS system
- Receive and organize incoming inventory; maintain accurate product data (pricing, GTINs)
- Restock shelves, count inventory, and keep backstock areas tidy and organized
- Maintain displays, menus, signage, and all customer-facing areas to a high standard
- Clean the shop (including displays) and support daily operations wherever the team requires support
- Pitch in on various tasks with a proactive, self-starting attitude
What We’re Looking For
- Positive, approachable communicator who genuinely enjoys helping people
- Detail-oriented, reliable, punctual, and procedure-driven
- Comfortable discussing cannabis products professionally and educating customers
- Entrepreneurial spirit with the ability to self-lead while supporting a small team
- Experience in retail, hospitality, or customer service is an asset
- Cannabis knowledge is a bonus — a real willingness to learn is required
Conditions of Employment
- 19 years of age or older
- Valid Selling It Right Certificate
- Legally eligible to work in Canada
- Must successfully complete a criminal record check (required by municipal regulations)
- Available for a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends
- Successful completion of a three-month probationary period (to ensure a great fit for both you and the team)
If you love connecting with people, learning something new every day, taking initiative in a growing industry, and being part of a locally owned small business that puts community first, we’d love to hear from you.
