JOB SUMMARY:
The KBA Press Operator oversees all aspects of production from the instructions contained on a work order through to the completion and shipment of finished products. This role is responsible for producing high-quality printed corrugated packaging by operating a KBA flexographic press and rotary die-cutting equipment while meeting quantity, quality, and production schedule requirements.
The KBA Press Operator manages multiple projects in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and demonstrates flexibility in responding to changing priorities. The Operator develops and maintains positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders and demonstrates ownership, accountability, strong communication skills, and a commitment to continuous improvement.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Set up and operate the KBA flexographic printing press in accordance with established setup procedures and best practices.
- Operate and monitor rotary die-cutting functions to ensure accurate cutting, creasing, stripping, and overall product quality.
- Inspect substrate before run to ensure that substrate is to quality specification, particularly trim and registration.
- Monitor corrugated board quality, including but not limited to loose liner, warp, board integrity, and correct dimensions.
- Continuously monitor print quality, colour consistency, registration, die-cut accuracy, and finished product appearance throughout the production run.
- Maximize the utilization of equipment by operation the machinery at available capacity and speed.
- Train and assist Feeder and Stacker with job duties on the machine.
- Complete necessary reports in an accurate and timely manner, including but not limited to: Production Data, Machine Operational Status, Safety Data, Quality Data.
- Turn in maintenance work orders to supervision for needed repairs. Be proactive in the maintenance of equipment.
- Comply with all company policies and procedures, including safety and maintaining good housekeeping.
- Adheres to production schedule. Makes recommendations for optimizing the schedule to meet cost, quality and service goals.
- Reports any unusual scheduling issues to Supervisor.
- Additional duties may be assigned by management.
- Ensures Quality Procedures are followed
- Intimately understands the requirements of the Work Order
ACADEMIC AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience operating KBA printing presses, flexographic printing presses, or similar wide-format corrugated printing equipment is preferred.
- Experience with rotary die-cutting equipment in a corrugated packaging manufacturing environment is considered a strong asset.
- Equivalent combinations of education, training, and related manufacturing experience will be considered.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
- Working knowledge of flexographic printing processes, colour control, print registration, ink systems, and print quality standards.
- Experience with rotary die-cutting setup, operation, troubleshooting, and quality inspection.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to speak and write effectively to other employees and management
- Organizational and time management
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Office environnement, photocopies, printers, etc.
- Minimal travel to visit customers and between locations
- Manufacturing environment operating KBA flexographic printing and rotary die-cutting equipment.
- This job requires that weight be lifted or force be exerted up to 50 pounds.
- Close vision is required (e.g., clear vision at twenty (20) inches or less)
- Colour vision is required (must have the ability to identify and distinguish colours)
