Reporting to the Information Services Manager, the Infrastructure and Operations

Supervisor is responsible to lead, implement, manage and sustain the Town’s

technology infrastructure, including networks, servers, desktop, laptop and mobility

hardware. Additionally this position is responsible for overseeing the Information

Services Help Desk and its’ front line internal client interactions.

Accountabilities:
  • Oversee the set-up, configuration, maintenance and replacement of servers,
network switches, network appliances, desktop/laptop hardware and mobility
devices

  • Supervise staff (recruit, train, develop work plans, conduct annual development
plans) and guide the activities of staff and consultants implementing or supporting
infrastructure

  • Oversee Information Technology systems asset management and all relevant
network and hardware configuration and support documentation

  • Oversee the corporate email system including backup and recovery
  • Oversee the corporate phone system (VoIP)
  • Provide technical support, guidance and escalation for IT Help Desk staff
  • Work with Information Services Manager to establish standards and best practices
for managing internal infrastructure, including cyber security, networks, firewalls,
access rights, desktops, servers and mobile devices

  • Implement policies/standards to improve the quality and efficiency of support
services

  • Responsible for overall system and infrastructure availability and developing a
resilient infrastructure to reduce down time

  • Responsible for day-to-day system administration, including management of internal
network, VPN, Microsoft Active Directory (AD) and system backups

  • Responsible for management of the rollout and support of desktop devices, including
laptops and printers, and productivity tools such as MS Office

  • Ensure that systems, processes and methodologies are maintained and followed to
ensure effective monitoring, control and support of service delivery

  • Ensure delivery of individual and team projects allocated within agreed delivery
times

  • Develop plans and lead the replacement of infrastructure at end of life
  • Identify opportunities to simplify IT Help Desk operations through continuous
improvement initiatives

  • Provide rotating out of hours support
  • Other job related duties as assigned
You possess:
  • A University Degree in Information Technology or other related discipline
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in an IT environment, focusing on server and
network operations, desktop support, helpdesk services and day-to-day technical
operations

  • ITIL Foundation, Cisco CCNA/CCNP certifications desirable
  • Current certification in the following areas would be considered an asset: Cisco
Certified Network Associate/Professional (CCNA/CCNP), Systems Security Certified
Professional (SSCP), and/or Certified Information Systems Security Professional
(CISSP), Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE)

  • Experience managing programs or projects and supervising staff
  • Thorough understanding of corporate information systems architecture, software,
computer operating systems, databases, computer networking and internet
technologies

  • Thorough understanding of computer hardware, servers, routers, personal computer
options, VoIP/PBX and cellular telephones

  • Knowledge of Municipal procurement procedures including Requests for Information,
Proposals, and Vendors of Record

  • Working knowledge of the following areas: switches, routers, firewalls, Wi-Fi and
access points, virtual private networks (VPN) and remote connectivity, intrusion
prevention systems, network access control, vulnerability and security scanning,
penetration testing, and domain name systems

  • Complete understanding of internet and intranet technologies, Microsoft domains,
Microsoft Active Directory and Microsoft Servers, in both physical and virtual server
environments.

  • Proven experience with any/all of the following is desirable: Blackberry Enterprise
Server, VMware server virtualization, VMWare Horizon, Equalogic SAN, ShoreTel
VoIP, MS Server, MS SQL Server, Checkpoint Firewall, Veam Backup software,
network design and disaster recovery

  • Supervisory experience with strong leadership ability
  • Excellent analytical, consultative and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills
  • Evidence of a proactive customer focused approach
  • Experience of working with 3rd party service providers
Compensation:
The salary for this position (35 hours per week) is $84,693 - $100,825 per annum.
This position will involve occasional evening or weekend work, as necessary.
