The Opportunity: Director of Finance
Position Summary:
The Director of Finance is directly responsible for all company financial operations and activities and oversees payroll. In this role, you provide strategic financial direction and leadership to ensure the financial health and growth of the organization. You will be responsible for managing financial planning, reporting, budgeting, and analysis, while also overseeing internal controls, compliance, and risk management.
- Lead all accounting, reporting, budgeting, and other financial matters, including AR and AP
- Prepare and present financial reports, including balance sheets, income statements, project tracking and cash flow statements to senior leadership
- Work closely with the senior leadership team to provide financial insights and recommendations for strategic decision-making to support company growth and profitability
- Produce accurate forecasts that enable operations to react to changes in the business
- Manage the company's cash flow and ensure adequate liquidity for operations and investments
- Manage relationships with external auditors, banks, insurance providers, and other financial institutions
- Ensure the company maintains an appropriate risk management framework, through sound policies and internal controls, to ensure the company is in compliance with legal and regulatory requirements
- Communicate and collaborate with departmental leaders to stay abreast of spending, budgeting, reports, and evaluation
- Lead and coach the payroll/finance support team member
- Oversee procurement and vendor management from a financial and contractual perspective, ensuring the best value for money

You thrive on partnering with your internal and external clients, working collaboratively to identify areas to grow the business. You are someone who takes ownership and sees projects or issues through to completion. Most importantly, you provide uncompromising quality of service in everything you do.
Your Experience:
In addition to everything outlined in “The Perfect Person for the Role,”
- CPA Designation
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or a related field (Master’s degree or MBA preferred)
- 10 years of progressive financial management experience with 5 years in a senior leadership role (preferably as a Director of Finance or similar)
- Prior experience with financial operations in the U.S., including budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis in accordance with U.S. standards is a definite asset
- A proven track record in finance and accounting within a corporate, high-volume environment
- A passion for leadership with strong business and financial acumen
- Strategic mindset with the ability to think critically and align financial strategies with overall business goals in a creative and innovative way
- Ability to communicate financial concepts in a clear and persuasive manner that is easy to understand and drives desired behaviours
- Meticulous attention to detail and very high work standards
- Strong work ethic with excellent teamwork and team-building skills across all members of the organization
- A well-defined sense of diplomacy, including solid negotiation, conflict resolution, and people management skills
- Proficient in spoken and written English
- A high degree of confidentiality, ethics, integrity and discretion in managing sensitive financial information
- Strong problem-identification and problem-resolution skills
- Expert knowledge of Excel
- Intermediate knowledge of payroll processing and systems; ADP’s WorkforceNow is a definite asset
- Advanced knowledge of ERP systems; MS Dynamics is a definite asset
- Intermediate knowledge of MS Access

Working Conditions:
Hybrid: The expectation is that you will be working out of the Encore Head Office in Oakville at a minimum on Tuesdays and Thursdays (subject to change). Encore has a fast-paced, dynamic environment that requires quick decision-making and adaptability. Encore's head office is small, so we all do whatever it takes to get 'er done, often working outside of our traditional 'job descriptions.' Encore is a very tech-forward company, and we look for people who embrace technology and learn it quickly.
