POSTION SUMMARY
Reporting to the FCSS Manager, this position is responsible for the development, promotion, and delivery of effective preventative social programs and services that will enhance the quality of life for residents with a senior and abuse prevention focus. This role involves offering personalized support to residents, helping them gain independence, enhance coping abilities, and become more resilient to crisis situations through individualized assistance and resource provision. This position assesses the social needs of the community through partnerships, facilitation, and consultation with all stakeholders. This position works closely with municipal staff, agencies, community organizations, and the public.
WORK RESPONSIBILITIES
General Administration
- Coordinates with the Community Services Department, other town departments, agencies, organizations, and businesses to identify, study, and develop solutions that are responsive to issues affecting the Town’s population including the need for companionship, safety, social, recreation, health, and other services
- Develop agency relationships to create and maintain program and service partnerships through program development and pilot initiatives
- Actively maintain and update an inventory of available program and services offered through local agencies
- Serve as the FCSS/Town of Hinton representative to boards, clubs, and committees associated with programs and services
- Respond to inquiries and complaints from staff, volunteers, and the public
- Develop and maintain procedures, policies, and standards which ensure safety of public, staff, and volunteers and the efficient delivery of services
- Develop, administer, and manage forms and records to document programs, activities, and outcomes
- Assigned a role within the Emergency Coordination Centre (ECC) for Disaster Services
Direct Service Delivery
- Assist individuals in identifying service needs and refer them to appropriate program providers and/or service agencies to enable them to meet those needs
- Assist individuals in accessing available government benefits and services such as health care, pensions, transportation, and housing
- Plan, implement, publicize, facilitate and/or provide informational presentations that pertain to the clients’ needs in the program area
- Manage and deliver the Community Volunteer Income Tax program
- Facilitate Compass for the Caregiver and co-facilitate the Caregiver Support Group
- Facilitate education and awareness sessions for Elder Abuse Prevention and manage elder abuse referrals in Hinton and surrounding area as well as collaboration at a regional level
- Provide support and education to individuals experiencing change/loss in their lives
- Participate in seniors needs assessment, planning, and program evaluation activities and serve on relevant committees as required
- Manage and facilitate special and annual program events: senior events, community information sessions, Seniors week, Friendly Visitor Program, and other initiatives
- Assist with referrals and clients regarding Lifeline, Home Support Services, and Meals on Wheels
Financial / Budget
- Develop, monitor, hold accountability for the annual program budget
- Seek, develop, and submit government grant applications and funding proposals for projects and ensure appropriate administration and accountability
- Research new and existing funds, programs, and opportunities to improve programs
- Assess the ongoing need for additional funding for programs
- Complete monthly, annual, and final reports for grants and sources of funds in program areas
- Prepare purchase orders and expenditures up to $1,000
- Account for all fees collected for all program areas
QUALIFICATIONS
- Post-Secondary Diploma or Degree in Social Work, Social Science or Human Services
- Minimum 3 years of work experience in a progressively responsible social services environment
- A combination of education and/or experience related to this position may be considered
- Experience working with and maintaining relationships with volunteers, boards, social service agencies, and the older adult population 55+
- Experience conducting needs assessment and program evaluation
- Advanced with computers and systems, Microsoft Office Suite, use of office equipment, and software applications
- Satisfactory background screening is required for this position including a Criminal Record Check, Vulnerable Sector Check, and Child Welfare Check
- A Class 5 Driver’s License with a satisfactory Driver’s Abstract

Pay: $39.75-$43.25 per hour
