About Us
Birmingham International Collegiate of Canada (BICC) is an Ontario-inspected private secondary school (BSID: 668260) located in Toronto. We offer Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) credit courses to students in Grades 9–12, with a particular focus on supporting international students preparing for university and college in Canada and internationally.
Our small class sizes allow teachers to work closely with students and provide individualized academic support. Our students come from a variety of educational and cultural backgrounds, creating a diverse and internationally focused teaching environment.
The Position
We are seeking a motivated, dependable, and student-focused secondary school teacher to join our academic team.
Depending on the successful candidate’s academic background, teaching experience, and teachable subjects, course assignments may include:
- ENG3U – English, Grade 11, University Preparation
- ENG4U – English, Grade 12, University Preparation
- ESL courses
- Senior Social Sciences courses
Candidates are not necessarily expected to teach all of the above subjects. Course assignments will be based on qualifications, experience, and teaching strengths.
The successful candidate will work primarily with international students and should be comfortable supporting students with different academic backgrounds and levels of English-language proficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging lessons aligned with the Ontario curriculum
- Prepare lesson plans, assignments, assessments, and instructional materials
- Assess and evaluate student achievement in accordance with Ontario curriculum expectations and school policies
- Provide timely, clear, and constructive feedback to students
- Support students with varying academic abilities and English-language proficiency levels
- Maintain accurate attendance, assessment, mark, and academic records
- Prepare report cards and other required academic documentation
- Monitor student progress and communicate academic, attendance, or behavioural concerns to appropriate school staff
- Collaborate with academic administration, counsellors, and other teachers to support student success
- Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and other school activities as required
QualificationsRequired
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Education, Social Sciences, or a related discipline
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Strong classroom management and organizational skills
- Ability to work effectively with international students from diverse educational and cultural backgrounds
- Ability to provide appropriate academic support to students with varying English-language proficiency levels
- Commitment to student learning, academic integrity, professionalism, and reliability
Preferred
- Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) certification
- Bachelor of Education
- Previous experience teaching Ontario secondary school courses
- Experience teaching ENG3U, ENG4U, ESL, or senior Social Sciences courses
- Experience working in a private school, international school, or multicultural educational environment
- Familiarity with Ontario secondary school assessment, evaluation, and reporting requirements
