BATTLE RIVER SCHOOL DIVISION is seeking applications for the following:
POSITION: Full-Time Educational Audiologist (FTE 1.0)
LOCATION: EELIT Office, Tofield, Alberta
The Eastern Edge Low Incidence Team (EELIT) is a team consisting of approximately 5 individuals working collaboratively with 12 partner school divisions and multidisciplinary team partners. The role requires travel across partner jurisdictions to provide consultation, training, and direct support.
INTENT: There is an opportunity for an Educational Audiologist to support students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing (DHH). This role focuses on promoting communication access and ensuring the availability of appropriate technology, supports, and services to enable student participation in the learning environment. Services will be delivered through a combination of in-person and virtual methods, with priorities determined by partner school divisions. This position will commence on August 25, 2026, and end on June 30, 2027.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS (QUALIFICATIONS):
- Registered Audiologist in the Province of Alberta in good standing
- Registered with the Alberta College of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists (ACSLPA)
- Experience with FM/DM technology and knowledge of the Alberta Aids to Daily Living (AADL) Program
- Dispensing and fitting experience
- Experience working with pre-school and school-aged populations
- Excellent English language and communication skills
- Strong computer skills and ability to use educational and assistive technologies
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license and reliable vehicle
GENERAL DUTIES:
- Provide consultation and direct services to children and youth identified as Deaf or Hard of Hearing, including classroom in-service training on hearing loss, noise exposure, and prevention
- Assist school teams in interpreting audiological data and assessment results to inform programming and interventions
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including Teachers of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing, Speech-Language Pathologists, Dispensing Audiologists, Vision Consultants, Learning Consultants, technology teams, and Indigenous communities to meet student needs
- Conduct functional evaluations related to hearing, hearing aids, cochlear implants, or FM/DM systems to determine student needs
- Provide recommendations for adaptations, accommodations, materials, and assistive technology in collaboration with school teams
- Liaise with external agencies such as Alberta Education, Alberta Health Services, Community Services, and AADL to support students with hearing impairments or listening difficulties
- Instruct school staff and students in the use and care of hearing aids, cochlear implants, FM/DM systems, and other assistive listening devices; ensure proper fit and function of equipment
- Promote student self-advocacy and self-management skills in relation to hearing needs and classroom environments
- Provide assessment reports and maintain documentation in student cumulative files; support school teams in sharing information with families
- Analyze classroom acoustics and recommend improvements for optimal listening environments
- Advise and assist school authorities in purchasing classroom amplification devices (CADs) and other necessary technology
- Manage FM/DM systems and related equipment owned by EELIT; maintain kits, resources, and ensure ongoing functionality
- Participate in transition planning for students moving to new learning environments to ensure continuity of supports
