The Rendering Supervisor is responsible for a team of hourly production employees, keeping an effective production team functioning at a high level, insuring that employees are trained, and skills are current and appropriate, that communication between departments and Management is effective, and that all work is performed according to Cargill's Best Practices.

The hours for this position are from 6:00am to 6:00pm, four days on, four days off, including Sundays and holidays. This position will require the successful candidate to attend training for 5 days a week for the same 12 hour shift, for at least the first two months.

Principal Accountabilities

80% Supervise, Coach and Mentor a team of rendering personnel, to produce quality products, reach production targets and work safely to include, raw material handling, cooking, separating, pressing, grinding, product conveying and loading finished products. Oversee daily inventory of all rendered by-products to control yields, supply accurate inventory to by-product sales and ensure Control quality of all by-products to reduce claims. Observe and monitor all mechanical downtime and develop plans in conjunction with maintenance to minimize downtime. Identify and correct safety hazards to promote a safe work environment. Ensure all food safety processes are maintained and enforced. Manage a diverse team of individuals and skill sets. Administer company policies and plant rules. Counsel employees and deal with employee complaints to minimize labor problems. Deal with employee issues and disputes.

20% Communicate with and support other departments to maintain production and keep the process moving.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma
  • At least 3 years in a supervisory position
  • Ability to work overtime holidays and weekends
  • Must be legally authorized to work in Canada
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience in the beef industry
  • Previous experience in rendering operations process
Abilities
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to problem solve, make decisions and have effective time management skills
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment and act quickly and decisively when required
