This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced accounting professional to lead a project accounting team and contribute to the financial success of a growing organization. The Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day activities of the accounting department and providing leadership to the project accounting team. This role ensures accurate financial reporting, contract compliance, billing accuracy, cash flow management, and adherence to company policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing finance and accounting team.
- Provide ongoing coaching, performance feedback, and support employee development initiatives.
- Review project contracts and participate in project start-up meetings to ensure financial and contractual compliance.
- Oversee accounts receivable activities to ensure accurate and timely invoicing and collections.
- Review monthly cash position reports and monitor project billings and cash flow performance.
- Review payroll-related submissions and timesheet reporting for accuracy and completeness.
- Assist in resolving project-related financial issues, including subcontractor and contract administration matters.
- Review special payment requests and supporting documentation for completeness and compliance.
- Support sales tax and other regulatory reporting requirements.
- Ensure proper allocation of pre-construction and project-related costs.
- Review billing documentation to ensure completeness and accuracy.
- Manage monthly and quarterly compliance reviews and internal audits.
- Monitor the timely and accurate completion of financial reporting requirements.
- Contribute to process improvements and support additional responsibilities as required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience.
- Previous experience within the construction, engineering, or project-based industry is preferred.
- Prior experience leading or supervising a small accounting team is an asset.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles, general ledger management, and financial reporting.
- Ability to analyze financial data, identify trends, and investigate discrepancies.
- Understanding of contract accounting and the financial implications of contract terms.
- Knowledge of cash flow management and working capital optimization.
- Familiarity with risk management, internal controls, and financial compliance requirements.
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills with the ability to exercise sound judgment and make independent decisions.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial/accounting systems.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
- Detail-oriented, adaptable, and capable of working effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Occasional travel may be required.
