Business Intelligence and Analytics creates and oversees institution-wide business intelligence and market research strategies. The Business Intelligence and Analytics team plays an important role at SAIT by conducting research, gathering industry insights and measuring student and customer perceptions to directly support and inform strategic business decisions. Information and analytics are utilized to develop business cases to back institutional investments in support of student success.
We are currently recruiting a Data and Reporting Analyst position to join the Institutional Research and International Support team. You will play an integral role in the synthesis of information required by SAIT’s stakeholders to enable strategic decision making and realize institutional goals. Additionally, you will support the Manager, Institutional Research and International Support by providing research, insights and analysis on strategic projects ensuring the creation of accurate and appropriate research with a focus on linking internal and external information and analysis to support institutional planning and decision making.

Job Description

Acquire data by writing SQL scripts to extract relevant information from database environments, to meet business requirements and ensuring accuracy.
Execute and lead complex research and analysis projects that integrate multifaceted information to deliver high-level analysis.
Identify, gather and analyze various student data using SQL to extract student information from different database sources providing best solutions to integrate different components of the student life cycle.
Analyze and integrate internal policies and procedures into data visualizations using Tableau. These are part of the reports development process that is used to inform and advise Managers and to be used for strategic planning by stakeholders around the institution.
Design and deliver automated report solutions that summarize and transform data from various data sources into understandable and actionable information.
The incumbent will execute complex, confidential research and analysis in areas including but not limited to:
Student success trends to institutional, service, and program effectiveness
Methodologies to evaluate institutional growth
Labour market and economic trends and evaluate impact on institutional strategies
Performance monitoring
Integrating financial metrics related to institutional, service and program effectiveness, into strategic projects

Emerging issues and trends in:
Post-Secondary education
Labour market
Participate in research projects to integrate business intelligence into data use within SAIT’s business areas. Ensure that the student information is accurate and leveraged within the business intelligence solution to its maximum capacity.
Develop research methodologies and models to enhance understanding of issues including, but not limited to:
Post-secondary education trends affecting institutional strategies
Labour market and economic development that are related to institutional strategies
Maintain current in the field of higher education issues by research emerging trends in the sector

Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in related area
Minimum five years of experience in a higher education setting
Ability to prioritize tasks and align them with SAIT’s goals in an environment of competing deadlines and changing priorities
Knowledge in writing SQL
Knowledge of Oracle and MySQL databases
Knowledge of statistical, economic and social sciences methodologies
Experience with research projects in cross-disciplinary environment
Experience with databases and business intelligence tools
Experience with Banner ERP an asset
Ability to conduct presentations
Advanced level MS Excel
Ability to analyze, integrate and reconcile data from a variety of domains including, but not limited to:
Banner Student and Tableau – for student data
StatsCan – for education data and economic data
OECD – for education data
Associations and government sources – for policy, education and economic research
Ability to acquire and use data from internal and external sources including, but not limited to:
Enterprise Resource Planning systems (e.g. Banner)
Custom database applications
FoxPro (e.g. LERS)
Other (e.g. DCaR, CAPS, PAPRS)
Business Intelligence applications (e.g. Tableau Server)
Spreadsheets and other documents
Tableau, SPSS
