Our client, a manufacturer, are currently looking for a Process Engineer for one of their locations in Woodbridge, ON.
Job Summary:
Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Process Engineer will be responsible to develop and write all SOPs, maintain and track all quality and process concerns on Fast Response Board, work with Quality Manager to standardize quality inspections, work with Maintenance Manager to reduce power and water usage, investigate continuous improvement opportunities across all processes, work with Managers in all departments to bring about process improvements resulting in cost savings.
Job Responsibilities:
- Develop new and existing products to meet the Product Development plans of the Division. Lead product development teams through the stage gate process to ensure success.
- Lead cost reduction initiatives through materials, product and process improvements.
- Plan and perform manufacturing trials to evaluate new product design, materials and formulations.
- Coordinate product sampling, testing and certification requirements.
- Maintain knowledge of latest materials & technology improvements and initiate programs for evaluation. Coordinate these programs with Engineering and Manufacturing.
- Develop & maintain process guidelines (SOP/SOC) and training programs for the integration of new products and systems.
- Identify opportunities and provide technical support to manufacturing for the improvement of product quality, process efficiencies and manufacturing costs.
- Other duties as required.
Job Qualifications:

- Post Secondary degree (Polymer Science or Chemical Engineering).
- Experience: 5 – 10 years of manufacturing work experience.
- Skills: Strong knowledge of plastics extrusion preferably in rigid PVC.
- Strong Product Development & Process Engineering skills and expertise.
- A results oriented problem solver with an analytical approach.
- Excellent verbal & written communication.
- A hands-on individual with good people skills.
- Six sigma green/black belt and knowledge of DOE an asset.Our client, a leading manufacturer of plastic products, is actively looking to hire a Senior Process Engineer for one of their locations in Woodbridge, ON.
SUMMARY
This position will independently evaluate, select, and apply standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria, using judgment in making minor adaptations and modifications. Assignments have clear and specified objectives and require the investigation of a limited number of variables.
As a fully competent engineer in all conventional aspects of the subject matter of the functional area of the assignments, plans and conducts work requiring judgment in the independent evaluation, selection, and substantial adaptation and modification of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria. Devises new approaches to problems encountered. Requires sufficient professional experience to assure competence as a fully trained worker.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
May include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Learn, know, practice, and promote all HR, safety, quality and operational policy, procedures and programs. Keep up with the latest updates and programs.
- Evaluate, review, revise all current SOPs to make sure they reflect the best practices.
- Generate SOPs for all critical to safety and quality operations that lack a written document.
- Investigate methods to measure and improve material utilization rate.
- Make sure our practices and SOPs match; modify as needed.
- Analyze unexpected equipment downtime to find ways to reduce unexpected downtime.
- Manage and purchase a list of all critical mechanical, pneumatic and electrical spare parts.
- Assist in standardizing equipment, and instrumentation with other plants and industry.
- Daily interaction with operators to improve the process capability and reduce workload.
- Assist maintenance in troubleshooting, preventive and conditional maintenance to reduce downtime and increase OEE.
- Study, choose and apply what Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing methodologies can offer that applies to our plants, operations, equipment, and our people.
- Able and willing to cover for supervisors and managers as needed and directed.
- Able and willing to assist in trouble shooting on off hours, weekends and holidays.
- Attend process hazard reviews as required.
- Create and implement solutions to action items identified in PHA’s, audit findings, and root cause analysis.
- Promote and support the company’s Continuous Improvement Process (CIP) activities as part of the department team.
- Prepare monthly and other reports required to keep management informed on progress of projects, improvements made and other items as necessary
- Use Statistical Process Control in the continuous improvement effort.
- Maintain working knowledge of the plant operations and technology in order to identify improvement opportunities and assist operations in resolving problems.
- Maintain information (files and documentation) for plant process, equipment and technology.
- Assist in the preparation of capital requests necessary to improve plant operations.
- Plans, estimates and executes small to moderate projects.
- Other duties as assigned
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor’s degree in Chemical or Polymer or, Plastic Engineering required
- Minimum of 5 years of experience, preferably in steady-state process design or production
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written
- Proficient computer skills, with good working knowledge of all standard company applications (i.e., Microsoft Word, Excel, etc.)
- Ability to lead groups of people
- Ability to make sound decisions based upon technical information

Pay: $80,000.00-$90,000.00 per year
