CURIE (Canadian Universities Reciprocal Insurance Exchange) located in Burlington, Ontario delivers cost effective, and solutions based, commercial insurance and risk management services to its members; Canadian post-secondary institutions in 9 provinces across the country. CURIE is seeking to hire an established Commercial Account Manager with a minimum of 5 years+ to support our insurance brokerage (CISL) operations.
This role is responsible for providing the day-to-day service to our members’ insurance programs and those of affiliated business. Core responsibilities include policy administration and client support, risk advisory services, coverage expertise and supporting the SVP with client relationship management. The Account Manager will work closely with the SVP and other team members in a collaborative client management approach.
Key Responsibilities
Client Relationship Management
- Serve as a point of contact for our members and affiliated businesses to oversee the day-to-day management of their insurance programs.
- Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with member and other key stakeholders as required
- Conduct regular account reviews to ensure coverage remains aligned with client needs
- Assist clients with claims by actively engaging with insurer claims team, third party adjusters and in-house claims resources.
Policy Administration & Support
- Manage the full policy lifecycle, including new business, renewals, endorsements, and cancellations
- Prepare and present proposals, coverage comparisons, and renewal strategies
- Review policy documents for accuracy and ensure timely delivery to clients
- Respond to client inquiries and requests including but not limited to certificates of insurance, coverage related inquiries, claims or billing issues.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records in broker management system of client interactions, policy changes and correspondence, ensuring compliance with brokerage and regulatory guidelines.
Risk Advisory & Coverage Expertise
- Assess client exposures and recommend appropriate coverage solutions
- Collaborate with SVP and underwriters to negotiate terms, pricing, and program structure
- Stay current on market trends, emerging risks, and industry developments

Education & Requirements
· Minimum 5+ years of commercial insurance experience (brokerage or insurer)
· RIBO license (or provincial equivalent) required
· Licenses in additional provinces (e.g., Alberta, BC, Atlantic Canada) are considered an asset
· Recognized insurance industry designation (Certifications such as CRM, RPLU, CAIB, CIP, FCIP, CCIB) are considered an asset.
· Accident and Sickness license through the Financial Services Regulatory Authority of Ontario (FSRA) is an asset.
· Experience supporting higher education, public sector, or other complex commercial accounts is preferred
· Strong understanding of commercial lines products and risk management principles
· Post-secondary school degree or diploma is a must have.
Skills & Experience
· Commercial insurance industry experience and specialty risk management.
· Brokerage experience with a fundamental understanding of policy programs, manuscript wordings and rating methodology.
· Extensive experience negotiating with insurance companies and underwriters.
· An innovative and creative thinker who is open to different approaches to resolving issues.
· Demonstrated ability to work in a team-oriented environment with a high degree of collaboration with the SVP and team members.
· Sound knowledge and understanding of the insurance industry and exceptional negotiation, analytical, and communication skills.
· Ability to communicate complex technical and risk concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
· Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to support members.
· Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment
· Proficiency with brokerage management systems (Applied Systems preferred)
· Good working knowledge of Microsoft 365 Applications (Teams, Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
