The Centretown Community Food Centre is the community food bank that serves downtown Ottawa, providing food assistance to over 1,000 households each month. We provide any household in our catchment area with 5 days of nutrious and fresh food.
Job Title: Operations Assistant, Centretown Community Food Centre (CCFC)
Under the general direction of the Manager, and working closely with the Operations Coordinator, has responsibility to open the Food Centre and receive food orders, ensuring the accuracy compared with the order. Also, leads volunteers to ensure food is ready for client service. Under the supervision of the Operations Coordinator, registers clients for service about 2-3 times a week. Specific responsibilities include:
- Arrive between 8-8:30 to open the food centre, accept food deliveries and greet volunteers;
- Put the client sign-in sheet out in the lobby area at 8-8:30; Distribute numbers to clients on the sign-in sheet at 11:20-30;
- Supervise and lead volunteers in ensuring food centre shelves are fully stocked and prepared for client service;
- In conjunction with the Manager and Operations Coordinator, ensure food safety guidelines are being followed at all times;
- Meet, sign for and check for completeness of all food orders from sources such as the Ottawa Food Bank and grocery stores;
- Accept, note down and ensure proper sorting of all food received from community food drives and other food donations;
- Conduct Client intake 2-3 times a week;
- Assist in smooth operations with continual restocking, cleaning and rotating of food products during client service.
Hours: The Operations Assistant is expected to work part-time at approximately 25 hours/ week, on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday starting between 8:00-8:30 AM

- Strong organization skills;
- Demonstrated reliability and flexibility to accommodate a changing environment;
- Ability to work as a team and to be comfortable in a leadership role;
- Ability to safely lift 40 lbs;
- Full English fluency and communications required, French an important asset and fluency in other languages is highly valuable.
Pay range: $21.00 - $24.00/ hour; start date September 28, 2026
