The Cancer Clinical Research Unit (CCRU) has a mandate to lead and promote clinical research within the PMH Cancer Program through standardization of processes and encouraging a culture of responsibility and accountability in clinical trials. The CCRU the unit provides clinical study conduct services and quality assurance management to investigators within the Princess Margaret Cancer Program. The candidate will work closely with clinical research teams and disease sites across the program.
The Clinical Research Manager is responsible for oversight of the CCRU clinical research staffing pool by providing a positive work culture, training to develop and implement work practices to permit the delivery of high quality and efficient clinical research coordination services, while building excellence and capacity to respond to the clinical research portfolio within the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre. The primary accountabilities of this role are hire, train, and supervise clinical trials staff, ensure quality in work practices and accountabilities within the team. This includes the supervision of direct reports, the administration and distribution of workload, oversee study and staff performance, perform, and oversee quality assurance activities, as well as perform cross-functional and other duties consistent with the job classification as assigned and or requested.
The Clinical Research Manager is accountable to:
Develop, implement, and maintain high quality clinical trials procedures and processes
Hire, train, and supervise clinical trials staff
Liaise with investigators, administrative staff, sponsors, and clinical trials staff and develop excellent communication strategies
Update the CCRU Program Director on clinical trials activities including administrative, protocol-related, data management, quality and regulatory issues
Oversee the submission and approval of protocols and amendments to the institutional research ethics board and all other impacted departments
Oversee the monitoring and quality assurance program for DMOH-CTG
Provide training for and enforce standard operating procedures
Maintain training and proficiency of study coordinators and clinical trials staff who are responsible for the data coordination
Oversee financial management of the department
Develop workload templates and budgets for personnel, services, resources where required
At minimum, a completion of a bachelor’s degree program, or recognized equivalent in Health or Science Related Discipline.
At least five (5) years experience in Clinical research, oncology experience preferred
At least two (2) to three (3) years of leadership and managerial experience
Demonstrate relevant clinical research knowledge
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, excellent organization, prioritization skills, good computer skills, ability to learn quickly and work independently
Excellent interpersonal skills
Ability to work under pressure and attention to detail
Ability to perform duties in a professional and courteous manner and produce high quality work while meeting deadlines in accordance to UHN standards
Knowledge of applicable legislative, UHN and/or departmental policies
Client service oriented, with the ability to effectively work with diversity and appreciate that people with different opinions, backgrounds and characteristics bring richness to the challenge or situation at hand
Certification as a Clinical Research Professional, preferred
