Who we are looking for
We employ people who are passionate about software development and strive to deliver the best product in the market. Our Intermediate UX Designer will work across the entire application and understand that usability of the software is of the utmost importance and that a project is not done until it has been deployed to production and accepted by our customers. We want people who are hungry to learn and improve in any way they can.
If the criteria below sounds like you, then you might be right for the Curve Dental UX team.
- Your designs are usable. You put the user first, and design for them. You have a great background in user research and how to get the user’s needs and validate that your designs work. You know your testing methodologies cold and value putting them into practice. The words “5-8 users today” excite you.
- Your designs stand up to scrutiny. “Feels right” isn’t your only motivation and you value requirements, design goals, standards and best practices. You can really think through a design and thrive on collaboration and criticism from your peers. You feel right at home defending your designs with real design thinking and data... not feelings.
- Your designs work everywhere. You are comfortable designing for desktop, web and mobile. You have a background in interaction design and a good working knowledge of best practices on multiple platforms. You read platform HCI guidelines for fun.
- Your designs are for people, in their environments. You know that a user’s environment affects them physically and defines their use of technology. You have some experience or background in human factors and ergonomics.
- Your designs are realistic. You know what it costs to make technology and know the technical tradeoffs. You understand platform capabilities and limitations and have experience with the software development lifecycle.
- You know the value of organization. You arrange content so that people can consume it quickly and efficiently. You know the difference between data and information; background or experience in information architecture and/or data visualization is a plus.
- Your designs are engaging and delightful. Form may follow function, but people are attracted to beauty. You have a good sense of esthetic though you likely aren’t an artist. Some experience or background in visual design is a plus but not required.
- You have a portfolio and love to show it off. You are passionate about your work and take pride in it, so email it to us or bring it with you. Seriously, a portfolio or examples of your work is a must.
- You’ve been there and done that, but still need the T-shirt. You have 3+ years experience designing and testing software applications and are strong experience in various user experience disciplines
- You’ve studied. A degree or diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution, or equivalent industry experience in Human Computer Interaction, Computer Science, Human Factors and Ergonomics, Cognitive Psychology, Graphic Arts, Media Design or other UX related discipline
Our Intermediate UX Designer will combine all of the above alongside people skills, a talent for exceptional user experience design, excellent communication and collaboration skills, the ability and the desire to promote quality and standards in all areas of design, and a true desire to build world-class software.
Things we’re looking for in terms of more specific skill-sets and experience:
- 3+ years of experience in user experience design
- Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with customers to gather and understand their business needs
- Ability to define, document, and validate user requirements and designs through use cases, user stories, detailed designs, workflows, or other methods
- Track record in validation activities with internal stakeholders and customers and effectively incorporating results back into the product design and design process
- Extraordinary organizational skills to manage all of the different types of tasks necessary to complete a project or manage tasks from multiple concurrent projects
- Proven ability to confidently communicate across all parts of the company
- Ability to follow standard operating procedures in every stage of the development process, ensuring all project work is captured and organized accordingly
- Passion for representing user needs and usability in reviews
