SCOPE
Reporting to the Supervisor, Audiovisual Fine Arts, the incumbent supports curriculum delivery by providing scheduling and logistic support for use of media resources and facilities for courses. The incumbent ensures accessibility to and utilization of Visual Collections Repository (VCR) collections and facilities. The incumbent provides instruction and assistance with teaching, viewing and digitization technologies. The incumbent coordinates with the Concordia Library and other units as needed. The incumbent ensures a safe, efficient, and productive learning environment by maintaining and organizing facilities, and resources. Additionally, the incumbent contributes to innovation and creativity by supporting the exploration of new techniques and technologies.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Provide access to digital and analog media collections and workspaces. Coordinate scheduling, reservation, and delivery of media from the collections; Inspect, prepare analog and digital films for delivery to classes; coordinating with academic departments and other university units as needed.
• Provide training and assistance for faculty, students, and external clients in use of media resources and digital technologies in service of teaching and research, providing consultation, instruction, support, and workshops.
• Troubleshoot technical issues with equipment and facilities providing timely solutions. Perform regular cleaning, and minor repairs on equipment and facilities.
• Update web sites and other repositories with policies, documentation for accessing and working in facilities.
• Digitize materials for inclusion in the collections. Provide instruction for users on digital transfers and working with the collections. Work with other university providers to ensure the integrity of databases and catalogues.
• Monitor operating budgets and make purchases as required to ensure proper functioning of facilities and equipment. In consultation with faculty and supervisor provide input on capital purchases and planning to ensure optimization and relevancy of spaces and facilities to meet curriculum objectives.
• Develop and refine workflows for operations, providing input on upgrades to facilities and technology.
• Serve as the primary liaison with hardware vendors and technical support teams to ensure timely procurement, maintenance, and issue resolution for equipment and systems while monitoring expenditures related to equipment, materials, and maintenance to ensure budget compliance on a weekly basis.
• Perform other tasks in service of the unit.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Diploma of Collegial Studies (three-year technical DEC) in a field related to the primary responsibilities and four years of relevant experience, or Bachelor's Degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent and two years of associated experience.
• Good knowledge (Level 4) of spoken and written English in order to assist/instruct and to write procedures and instructions. Good knowledge (Level 4) of spoken French in order to provide information to students.
• Ability to multitask and work autonomously and under pressure with overlapping deadlines, as well as ability to work in a team.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Experience with photo and video editing software for the digitization and processing of still and moving images.
• Will require use of respiratory protection and enrollment in the University’s Respiratory Protection Program.
• Physical ability to occasionally lift/carry/move without assistance up to 23 kg (50 lbs.) and with assistance up to and above 45 kg (100 lbs.).
• Experience working in an educational environment with visual media collections, especially in cinema or art history context is an asset.
• Experience working with databases, cataloging, and inventory systems is an asset.
• Experience working with analog and digital projection systems including DCP is an asset.
