Job Overview / Purpose
The Senior Internal Auditor contributes to the Internal Audit Department delivering its mandate which is focused on:
- Proving Assurance & Advisory services through the delivery of the Internal Audit program.
- Managing the company’s Internal Controls over Financial Reporting (ICFR) program to support the company and its CEO and CFO in meeting their compliance obligations pursuant to NI52-109.
- Investigating whistleblower reports and other fraud and ethics related matters.
Key Accountabilities
Internal Audit:
- Assist the Vice President Internal Audit in developing an Internal Audit Plan based on risk assessments, management interviews and other relevant data sources.
- Plan and execute Internal Audit assignments. Take responsibility for delivering projects through the entire project lifecycle from planning and scoping, fieldwork, reporting and follow-up.
- Support the company’s acquisition activities by performing due diligence procedures, including rent roll audits and other relevant procedures, to confirm the integrity of financial and operational data presented by acquisition targets.
- Support the development of a data analytics program.
- Conduct fraud investigations in response to Whistleblower reports.
NI52-109 compliance:
- Assist the Vice President Internal Audit in determining the scope of the program.
- Document business processes and controls.
- Perform process walkthroughs and identify key controls.
- Identify control design deficiencies and assist management in developing remediation plans.
- Develop test procedures and perform control testing to evaluate the effective operation of controls.
- Identify deficiencies in the effective operation of controls and assist management in developing remediation plans.
- Monitor the completion of remediation action plans by management.
- Facilitate quarterly certifications and attestations by control owners and prepare summary reports for certifying officers.
- Assist the Vice President Internal Audit in preparing periodic status reports for management and the Audit Committee.
Qualifications
Education:
- University of College Degree in accounting, finance, administration or business, or equivalent work experience.
- Professional accounting or auditing designation (e.g. CA, CPA, CMA, CIA, CISA, CFE)
Experience:
- A minimum of four years relevant work experience in finance, accounting, internal or external auditing, data analytics, etc.
Skills & Abilities:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must be proficient in English and French to support growing Quebec portfolio.
- Sound foundation in Internal Audit and related assurance or controls related topics required (e.g. COSO Framework).
- Proficiency in Microsoft products such as Word, Excel and Visio.
- Basic understanding of data analytical processes and tools (e.g. IDEA) an asset. Willingness to learn and become proficient in this field imperative.
- Ability to work both independently with limited supervision and as part of a small team.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
Effort
- The role is administrative in nature and other than the ability to travel, does not require any additional physical capabilities.
- The role by its nature requires a high degree of attentiveness and ability to work on a computer and concentrate for extended periods of time.
Working Conditions
- This position is based in either the Mississauga or Montreal offices.
- This position is subject to the flexible work arrangements as determined by the company.
- This position requires inter-provincial travel to Chartwell’s operations (currently Alberta, British Columbia, Ontario & Quebec). The incumbent therefore requires the ability to drive and travel by airline within Canada.
- The position may require travel up to 25% per annum.
Can be based in Montreal.
