Reporting to the Group Head, Taxation, the Senior Director, Taxation will serve a critical role within the George Weston Limited tax department, which provides corporate tax services to Loblaws, Choice Properties REIT, and Weston Foods. The successful candidate will be responsible for the Canadian corporate regulatory tax reporting compliance for the Loblaw group of companies and will work closely with key internal partners at Loblaw, fellow tax professionals at George Weston, and external service providers when carrying out these responsibilities.
Direct the tax reporting cycle for the Loblaw consolidated group of companies including the tax provision, government tax returns, book-to-file review, forecasting and tax audits.
Direct the financial statement tax reporting process, including review of total consolidated quarterly income tax provisions, financial statement notes, and internal tax reporting packages for the Loblaw group of companies and liaise with the external financial statement auditors.
Oversee the timely completion of corporate income tax audits from the federal and provincial tax authorities working with the Group Head in the management of key tax risk and audit disputes.
Assist with the completion of the quarterly tax management report.
Direct continuous change and innovation through the development and implementation of new technologies, processes and controls to drive effective and efficiency within the team while also addresses changes to tax legislation and IFRS tax reporting standards.
Direct, coach and develop a team that consists of tax managers and tax analysts.
Maintain a current knowledge of relevant tax legislation and IFRS tax reporting standards and guidelines by working collaboratively with tax colleagues and the financial reporting team.
Other tasks as assigned by the Group Head, Taxation which may include performing tax research on key tax reporting matters, preparing tax memoranda or assisting with presentations to the business or tax team.
Designated Chartered Professional Accountant or equivalent with 6-8 years of experience in a comparable tax role.
Completion of CICA In-Depth Tax Course
Income tax provision and Canadian tax compliance experience in a professional services firm and/or industry, as well as experience in corporate tax research.
Current knowledge and experience with International Financial Reporting Standards.
Excellent verbal and interpersonal communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to liaise with all levels of management.
Strong organizational and analytical skills with a proven ability to handle multiple priorities and see projects to completion.
Ability to work collaboratively with peers and colleagues to deliver results.
Experience with Microsoft Office programs and knowledge of tax preparation and research software Experience with accounting systems (i.e. SAP or Hyperion) an asset.
