Accounting Manager / Senior ReviewerAbout Ivory Accounting & Advisory Services
Ivory Accounting & Advisory Services is a public practice accounting firm based in Fort Langley, BC. We provide accounting, tax, and advisory services to owner-managed businesses, professionals, families, and private corporations.
We are looking for a strong, detail-oriented accounting professional who can act as a reliable quality-control layer within the firm. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys reviewing files, mentoring staff, resolving technical issues, and making sure client deliverables are accurate, complete, and ready for partner sign-off.
Position Overview
The Accounting Manager / Senior Reviewer will be responsible for reviewing corporate year-end files, compilation engagements, financial statements, corporate income tax returns, personal tax returns, and related working papers.
The primary purpose of this role is to ensure that files are technically sound, fully supported, internally consistent, and ready for partner review with minimal rework.
This is a review-focused role. While some preparation work may be required from time to time, the successful candidate’s main responsibility will be to act as a final internal review point before files move to partner sign-off or client release.
The successful candidate must be comfortable working on both compilation and review engagement files, including the additional documentation, inquiry, analytical review, and professional judgement required for review engagements.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Reviewing corporate year-end files, financial statements, compilation working papers, and related tax returns
- Reviewing personal tax returns and related schedules
- Ensuring that working papers, lead sheets, financial statements, tax returns, and client deliverables are internally consistent and properly supported
- Identifying unusual balances, unreconciled items, shareholder loan issues, GST/PST issues, intercompany balances, related-party transactions, and other matters requiring investigation
- Ensuring issues are resolved, assigned, or escalated with a clear recommendation before files move forward
- Managing file readiness and progression through review stages prior to partner sign-off
- Preparing or reviewing review/compilation plans and client update notes
- Reviewing and drafting client correspondence, transmittal letters, management letters, and file completion notes
- Following up with clients and CRA where required
- Supporting and mentoring junior and intermediate accounting staff
- Helping improve review processes, file standards, checklists, and internal workflows
- Escalating technical or judgement-based issues to the partners in a clear, organized, and timely manner
What Success Looks Like
The right person in this role will help ensure that:
- Files reaching partner review are substantially complete and technically sound
- Partner review is focused on judgement, client advice, and final approval rather than re-performing detailed file review
- Staff receive clear guidance and feedback
- File issues are not left unresolved or deferred indefinitely
- Client deliverables are accurate, well-supported, and professionally presented
- The firm’s review process becomes more consistent, reliable, and scalable
Qualifications & Experience
The ideal candidate will have:
- CPA designation preferred
- Significant public practice experience, including both compilation engagements and review engagements
- Direct experience preparing or reviewing review engagement files, including related planning, inquiry, analytical procedures, documentation, and financial statement presentation
- Strong experience preparing and reviewing corporate year-end files and T2 returns
- Experience reviewing personal tax returns
- Working knowledge of ASPE, the CPA Canada PEG, and the Canadian Income Tax Act
- Experience with owner-managed businesses, professionals, investment companies, and related-party structures
- Strong understanding of shareholder loans, dividends, GST/PST, intercompany accounts, and common private-company tax issues
Minimum of 3–5 years of public practice experience, with demonstrated review experience
Technical Skills
The successful candidate should have strong working knowledge of:
- Caseware / working paper software
- Tax preparation software, preferably TaxCycle
- QuickBooks Online
- Microsoft Excel and Word
- CRA My Business Account / Represent a Client
- Practice management software, preferably Karbon
- AI-assisted research, drafting, and workflow tools, such as ChatGPT, Blue J, and similar platforms
- The ability to use technology thoughtfully while applying professional judgement, confidentiality, and appropriate review procedures

- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong attention to detail
- A reviewer mindset, with the ability to step back and ask whether the overall result makes sense
- Strong organization and time-management skills
- The ability to move files and issues forward without excessive partner involvement
- Sound professional judgement and the ability to know when to escalate
- Clear written and verbal communication skills
- A willingness to mentor staff and improve team standards
- A professional, client-focused approach
