The Faculty of Liberal Arts and Professional Studies (LA&PS) is the largest Faculty at York University with over 27,000 undergraduate and graduate students, and almost 100 programs delivered through 25 Departments, Schools and Colleges, plus the IBM Markham learning site. Through innovative course design, diverse experiential education and learning opportunities, and a supportive community environment, our students receive the education they need to create big ideas that have an impact on the world.Reporting to Director, Strategic Research & Partnerships (Director, SRP), the Centre Coordinator is responsible for coordination, administration and effective delivery of services to support the goals and objectives of the Centre as well as coordinating outreach programs and the administration of financial reports. The Coordinator organizes and coordinates academic conferences, speaker series, meetings and events for the Research Centre, and faculty members as it relates to the operations of the Centre. Relatedly, this role offers support to faculty who administer external research grants through the GLRC, by providing administrative support related to hiring of research assistants and associates. Preparing timesheets and other forms related to payroll and records for necessary approvals, monitoring hours and contract renewals. The Coordinator also provides logistical support to affiliated faculty members, trainees, students, and external partners related to knowledge mobilization activities, ensuring adherence to best practices and facilitating connections with internal stakeholders when required.
Completion of University degree in a related field such as Social Sciences, Law, or Development Studies or an equivalent of 4 years recent experience (defined as within the last five years) working at a post-secondary institution and performing the same or similar tasks. This education equivalency is in addition to the experiential requirements outlined below. Preference will be given to candidates that have work experience with York University performing similar duties.
Minimum 2 years of related work experience in an academic or related research focused unit providing administrative support. Experience with, or demonstrable knowledge and awareness of, issues related to global labour and specifically the Centre's five core cross-cutting research themes- critical social science research, international development, and social justice and/or communities.
Demonstrated skills in writing, editing, promotions including programs and events. Excellent oral and written communication skills to elicit information and answer inquiries. Tact and diplomacy is essential. Knowledgeable in financial administration and has the skills to prepare budgets, track and reconcile cost centers, and create financial reports. Familiarity with grant programs and proposal requirements, project development, and fundraising to the point of being able to work comfortably with colleagues pursuing these activities. Exercising good judgment and initiative and maintaining strict confidentiality. Ability to work independently and effectively as part of a team. Demonstrated attention to detail and accuracy. Excellent organizational skills. Ability to work well under pressure of high volume. Setting priorities and coordinating multiple tasks with conflicting deadlines. Coordinating logistics and events. Intermediate knowledge of MS Word and MS Excel required, electronic calendar/scheduling software and email (Outlook). Intermediate knowledge of Adobe Acrobat Pro required. Demonstrated experience with social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter. Typing 40-50 w.p.m., accuracy is essential and Punctuality and professionalism is required.
