Reporting to the West Region Supervisor, Forest Operations, this position is responsible for leading and directing all activities associated with the execution of the annual Right of Way widening programs on the Transmission and Distribution electrical systems across the province. This position will be responsible for all planning, contractor and staff management, quality control, scheduling and fiscal reporting that is required each year to ensure a successful widening program.
Assess widening work to prepare annual forecast.
Prepare five (5) year plans and forecasts for transmission and distribution widening capital maintenance.
Obtain input from Forest Operations group and service groups to develop the annual and future widening plans.
Working with supervisor to schedule planned work and meet given budget and timeline targets.
Prepare monthly production and cost reports for Supervisor and Manager, Forest Operations.
Obtain financial information to update expenditure forecast and financial reporting.
Work with other ATCO groups and departments to obtain third party and government approval for all widening work.
Develop RFP bid packages, negotiate contracts and or agreements and set up contractor HS & E performance.
Supervise contractors and temporary staff to plan and execute all widening work.
Ensure contractor is meeting all contractual reporting, quality, safety and production requirements. Ensure all projects are fully audited and inspected and meet contract standards and requirements.
Negotiate and implement contract strategies.
Provide the base data from detailed schedule to develop business plan, GTA, and forecast.
Summarize the actual work completed to the business plan. Complete variance analysis and justification.
Forestry Degree or Diploma from a recognized institute of technology, Bachelor's degree from a recognized University
UTT or CUA designation preferred
Minimum 5 years of project management, contract management, and negotiation experience or related experience
Experience working on large projects over $1M dollars and working with many contractors at once is an asset
Experience working with Indigenous communities is an asset
Experience in Forestry and/or construction operations around timber salvage, access construction and watercourse crossing and pipeline crossing construction is an asset.
Vegetation management, forestry or related industry experience is an asset.
Valid Driver's License (work will occur throughout province and will mainly be shift work, during the summer season there will be more office work in Edmonton and shift work may not be required).
Keen understanding of business processes, budget development, business planning and financial management.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a dynamic environment while meeting multiple demands and priorities.
Strong technical writing and verbal communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to establish strong collaborative working relationships across teams and work groups.
Proficient in Microsoft Office skills including Outlook, Word and Excel.
