This is a casual role at Port Hardy Health Centre in Port Hardy on Vancouver Island, BC.
What You’ll Do
Reporting to the Program Lead, Integrated Child and Youth Teams, or the Manager, the Child and Youth Outreach Counsellor supports children and youth experiencing a mental health crisis. The role provides triage and assessment, urgent clinical response, short-term counselling and stabilization, resource navigation, and coordination with community service providers.
The Counsellor works with high-risk children and youth experiencing complex mental health, emotional, behavioural, physical, psychosocial and environmental challenges. This includes assessing factors that may contribute to or increase the risk of suicide and participating in service planning and priority-setting.
Travel is required. Transportation must meet Island Health’s operational requirements and may include the use of a personal vehicle.
What You’ll Need to Apply
- Bachelor’s degree in a health-related discipline from a recognized post-secondary institution.
- Eligibility for registration with the appropriate regulatory college and/or licensing body.
- Two years of recent, related experience involving: Crisis intervention and risk assessment, Mental health and substance use concerns, Psychiatric and suicide risk assessments, Crisis response techniques and strategies
- Knowledge of: Relevant programs and services, Applicable legislation, including the Mental Health Act, child protection legislation and the Infants Act.
- An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
- Valid BC driver’s licence.
