Transit Manager - Fort St. John, BC

PWTransit is seeking a full-time Transit Managerto lead the team at our Peace Country Transit operation. Reporting to the Vice President, Transit Systems, this role is responsible for planning, organizing, managing, evaluating, and overseeing the operation and budget of the Dawson Creek and Fort St. John locations. This position includes the identification of opportunities for transportation operation improvements and expansions.

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Degree or Diploma in Business Administration or Transportation Administration (or working towards). A combination of related training and experience may be considered
  • Several years of progressively responsible experience in Transportation Operations
  • Experience in Finance and Shop Maintenance considered an asset
  • Previous fleet management experience
  • Extensive knowledge of Health and Safety Regulations, Transportation Principles, Administration, Management and Human Resources
  • Experience with job task planning and organizing
  • Knowledge with Computer Hardware, Associated Software and Systems (i.e. route navigation, database user interface and query, etc.)
  • High level of accuracy and close attention to detail
  • Above average verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and people management skills, as well as great negotiation, organization, time management and planning abilities
  • Exceptional analytic problem solving and decision making skills
  • “Lead by Example” attitude towards all staff
  • Excellent computer skills

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, develop, organize, manage and evaluate the operations and budget
  • Direct the workforce to achieve maximum operational effectiveness & transit system efficiencies
  • Provide guidance, mentoring and support to all staff
  • Direct the activities of staff in relation to transit operations including dispatching, routing, and tracking vehicle maintenance etc.
  • Ensure awareness of PWTransit policy and procedures and monitor compliance
  • Plan, develop, and implement health and safety, and security programs and activities
  • Monitor operations to ensure that staff complies with policies & procedures, safety rules and government regulations
  • Negotiate and authorize contracts within authority limits, direct procurement activities related to transit operational needs
  • Direct and manage governance and regulatory compliance procedures related to transit activities
  • Forecast, document and report Key Performance Indicators to measure the effectiveness of the transit operations and develop strategies to correct problem areas
  • Direct investigations to verify and resolve customer complaints
  • Develop constructive and cooperative working relationships with employees and all stakeholders
  • Remain current with latest transportation technology systems and procedures
  • Negotiate with vendor representatives for services and preferential rates
  • Recommend or authorize capital expenditures for acquisition of new equipment or property to increase efficiency and services of transit operations
